OK, I just thought up of something really cool to make with Valve Hammer! It requires vertex manipulation, right? OK, I make a block. Then, I barely move it up and boom! Invalid Solid Structure error! I do a fix and it moves it like 50 ft. away from where the hell I wanted it! Gah, it's so annoying! The other way would be the "Triangle Technique", but for what I am trying to do, it would't work!

And please, if you don't know how to map, please don't spam up this thread!

it all depends on where you are moving the vertexes. If you experiment, you'll find out the limitations of vertex manipulation. The triangle technique is the best thing to use, because triangles can be easily manipulated, they very rarely give you errors, and you can combine them to make complex objects.
but i cant tell you what you should do, because i dont know what your trying to make :p

select 2 vertexes of the invalid brush and hit ctrl+f to add another ... um .. edge .. hard to explain ... just play a bit around with it.

For vertex manipulation to work, you can only move the vertices straight up or down. If you move the vertices slightly to the sides, it will screw it up. That's Hammer/HL for you :)

thats why he shall press ctrl+f wile 2 vertexes are selected ^^ that adds a new verts to the brush so you dont get an invalid brush ...

What shape do you use as a base? Cube, spike or another type?

I know their triangles but do you start with a square and face them or just use the wedge?
