in other words, how do i get that invisable wall around the level?

That is the sky. You make a box around your map and give it a sky texture.

if you use the default compile programms, the sky is not solid ... so you need to set a func_wall in front of it. use the zhlt compile progs then the sky is solid by default.

Get the ZHLT compilers, they're much better.
And when you make your sky, make sure it isn't just a box around your map.
Make it as if it was walls guided along the edge of the map, then just apply the sky texture.
If you make the sky an actual box around your map, then the bottom of the map compiles as well, and raises r_speeds.

If you go to the "Everything About Mapping" Thread you can find my tutorial and (looks at DJ) DJ's tutorial if he gets his domains back up. These should help you with getting things into place.
