It's really Irritating when you come home from Work or School, and there are millions of new posts you havent read, Your about to go on a posting spree, Then out of nowhere you have to wait 120 seconds to post again, over and over it really ticks me off, Just let me post dammit, Somebody just posted a comment come on let me post forum!, That's what I say when I have to wait a total of seconds to post after post, Espicially when it happens, over and over.

Its not such a big deal to me, got plenty of other things to do besides posting here, but its up to the admins.

I think its reasonable, seeing how many members this forum has, and how many are replying, if it would have no flood controll at all then it would be chaos.

If a 10 second time limit between each post was in, then you could practicaly kiss goodbye to the server hosting the forums, people start to spam up the forums etc. I'm always posting on other forums too at around the same time i'm on this forum, So I have a number of options of things to do while I wait till I can post again (I could look at a thread here, look at a thread there, chat to someone on a IM etc), but really, 2mins is a fair time and not longg to wait at all, also considering this is on a forum.

As |Overlord| stated, it's to prevent users from spamming the forums. I'm sure you know that there has been a number of advertisement bots that register on these forums and post something about Viagra or something, if the limit was removed then they would spam the heck out of the forums making it difficult for the moderators and administrators to act fast.

The limit isn't all that bad, most of the message boards I use have posting limits as well.

I wouldn't object to them lowering it to 60 seconds when there's downtime on the forums (long waits in between version releases of ESF). Any less than that can get dangerous I think.

If anyone in the world cannot wait 2 miniutes then we have a impatient world, simple as that!

But really, 2 miniutes is not that long to wait. Given the amount of users here as well, it's reasonable plus the server doesn't have such a hard time handeling all post requests as it would have with a very low time limit between posts.

Also, it would promote people going on posting sprees. If I could make a post every 10 seconds, in 2 miniutes I would have 12 posts, and I think the server would crash taking that many requests at once if we say had about 15+ users all posting every ten seconds (12x15 = 180, meaning 180 posts total in that time frame of 2 miniutes, and the server would come under a lot of load and could crash). Not also to mention, I don't think everyone would read all 180 posts/replies made by that amount of users, considering trhe short time frame that amount of posts was made in. Not to mention, I could spend 10mins on the forums, if a ten second post limit was in place and make60 posts in that time frame.

I guess I took out the trouble of doing the Math for some people =P.

It's to prevent spam, no? I would like a compromise... If you have over 500 / 1000 / whatever posts, you have no limit. It does get annoying at times.

I personally don't think people in the forum post fast enough to create spam and forum overflowage.

I think people would get carried away if there was no limit. I also think Sub's idea was pretty good. It would give people an incentive to post in places other than off-topic. I'm sure certain people would post random one-liners or things that do not help or are off-topic at first, but I'm sure that would die down if the administrators took action.

Personally, I think the time limit might dissuade people from posting. I know that in other forums I've gone to, I would surf somewhere else while the timer counted down, but I'd forget to post. I would become too involved with whatever I was currently doing. Then again, the limit also keeps most people from posting nonsense just for the sake of doing so. Or not.

That's really spam and I don't think just becasue the time limit is shorter that people will spam, Regardless of the spamming it usually gets removed so the user who spammed just to get an extra post didn't gain anything.

Automatic bots can post like 500 messages in a mere minute. That'd get annoying.

Trust me, I know. I've been to the bucket of ****.

If you take your time writing decent replies that aren't restricted to "OMG LOLZ U R TEH WTF PWN", you can fill the 2 minute gap quite easily :)

But ten seconds can easily create spam. A newbie could easily quadripple post in the space of 40 seconds. The reasons as to why the 2min limit are in, and they have already been fairly outlined, and a overview of what if, what could and what can happen.

It's been lowered in the past, if I recall correctly (Cuc would know the answer to that), and there was, indeed, a marked increase in spam.

The delay time doesn't need to change - 2 minutes is hardly asking a lot, particularly if you plan to make a full, decent post.
