pc monitor magnet damage

ok well, ill keep it short, im about to go to sleep.

the color screwups that occur on a pc monitor bt getting it near a magnet (in my case a speaker) that are fixed by the degauss button,

can this cause permanent damage to the screen if done repeatedly that cannot be fixed by degauss? or is it safe to rely on it.


reason i ask is because i started turning my pc monitor towards my bed so i can watch stuffs while i try and sleep, but every time I do so it gets slightly discolored on the left side, i dont want to figure out later on when my monitor dies that this was the reason.

afaik it can cause permanent damage.. if you get a lot of distortion.
If its really only a little bit of distortion I'd probably just live with it and use degauss.

Whenever I turn my monitor to face my bed I get a slight distortion as well .. then I press degauss and its all gone

well theres a tool that you can buy to remove magentic interfrence its caled a Degaussing-Wand that resets all the colors on your screen in deguss never works

Yes and no,

yes you'll destroy your monitor.
but it's at such a slow rate that it probably won't happen in the time you use it.

So don't worry about it.

Agreed... I never knew of the degaussing method. The way I fixed my CRT monitor back in the day is to keep using the magnet near the monitor to fix the colors. :love:

well ive actually tried that, and it still happened.

i do have a television, a vcr, dvd player, an external hard disk, and my pc all on my desk tho, it could be any one of these things.

good thing this thread is still up, it allows me to ask a related question.

i just got a new TV, its an LCD screen. will speakers distort its colors the same way? O want to know for sure that its safe to put the speakers on the stand with it (its a fairly small stand) or on the floor.
