Hello,

I have downloaded the open beta through torrent. I extracted the folder in steamapps\username\half-life. I restarted steam to get the game in the list. I can see it in the list but when i try to open it, it says that the game is unavailable.....

My questions are, how do i make it work? Is it a fake?

I had this problem a while ago. Try this. Completely delete Half-Life, manually not through Steam, then re-download it. Or if you have the .GCF files, Steam will just unpack them. Doesn't matter. Then, put the open beta into Half-Life again and it should work. It worked for me.

Nah, I dont think its steam. Since there are 2 differerent ESF directory's installed in your half-Life folder, you have to tell steam which ESF to play. Making a shortcut does that and directs it to 1.3.

Some general advice when installing steam games/mods. Close Steam first
