I was wondering if taking online courses is worth it. I'm doing more research into it, and it seems that it would be beneficial, but the only problem is that I don't have much money nor do I have a job.

I took a distance-ed (online) course this summer, so that I would have to take less in-class courses in my last year of University. Basically, I got a C in a bird course, because between two jobs, and trying to maintain a relationship and my social life, I kicked it to the side and gave it as little attention as humanly possible.

If you're gonna do it, make sure you put in the time and effort it deserves, as mundane as it can seem at times, it'll be worth it in the end.

i love online classes! you work at your own pace and if you can do a lot of work ahead of time instead of waiting for the class and listening to a teacher lecture for hours on end.. make sure thoe you're very good at following whatever instructions and can pick up written directions very well, or you might be in a tough spot during the semester

also make sure your computer doesnt shut down on you at times and you can have a fast uninterrupted internet connection.. if you have a timed test online then suddenly is cut off, sucks for you

and yes make sure you don't brush it aside but always make it a priority to do the work

I myself would not personally bother doing an online course, what happens if you need help with something (an example is if you build something an need hands on or teacher assistance in some particular courses).

As far as "go at your own pace" courses go, I currently attend a go at your own pace yr10 course at tafe (Tafe is practically what we call college here in australia). I'm nearly done as it is, however most of the students abuse the freedom of comnig and leaving as they go, sometimes they'll just go out every 5mins and have ciggies, or some hardly come at all and just sit home all day, do drugs or get drunk (some of them can be sad cases really). I myself though hardly get any time to do it and end up only gonig 2 days of the week plus go during when the room and teachers are worknig late which is Monday and Tuesday, the other 3 days of the working week I'm doing a carpentry course. I can also tell you however it was not a voulentary decision on my part to leave school during yr10, which was about half way through the school year.

I'd highly recomend you stay in a structered enviroment as opposed to donig a course online. What happens all of a sudden if your Comkputer is not functional for any given reason? what happens if your net is giving you trouble?. Factors like these should be considered.

that's why i said.. "make sure thoe you're very good at following whatever instructions and can pick up written directions very well, or you might be in a tough spot during the semester" >_>

but there's always ways to access the internet class at school, or a friend house, or wherever you can find a decent computer and connection, but if you know your computer is old, don't risk it
