Another ungrateful, self-righteous self-assumed mod expert. Welcome to the boards.

I have three suggestions:

1.) Learn to play before you decide the gameplay is a total loss
2.) if you had read the manual (which clearly you don't seem to have done, because your just another HL mod grabass and you think they're all point click and win), you would see that with knockback, with being slammed into the walls, and with block breaking, you can use all of the attacks to plentiful effect.
3.) Don't complain about the melee, as that is 90 percent of what happens in DBZ. There are a grand total of under like 12-15 kame's in the whole series...only three gallit guns...two or three BBA's...like, ONE final flash...what are they doing the rest of the time? Fighting.

And finally...if you think this game is a terrible job, don't play it. In fact, go try the others first, and then tell me how "horrible" this marriage of the half-life engine and the DBZ series is.

I'm sure everyone really appreciates you taking the time to come all the way over here and register on the board just to inform us how crappy the game is. I mean, clearly, we were lacking in understanding of what an awful job this half-assed mod really is. I mean, the way the forum has more members than ever, the way it was number one over and over again at modDB, the way we have a fairly larger than ever player base now...yeah, clearly this mod is terrible and needs a lot of work.

Thank you for showing me the light.

Even as a betatester, I have to agree with him. And dissagree with you, Pride. Just because someone states his oppinion you don't have to call him names like that, and take him down.

Melee as it is now, has gone wrong at some point. We are still trying to figure out how we should make it more skill dependant, and/or challenging.

All I'm saying, man, is that it's really obvious he didn't give the game too much of a run through, because he ignored what depth it already has.

He made it out like this was the worst game he ever played; that's just a preposterous claim. Are there things that could use tweaking? Of course! Did he bother to tell us any? no. He just joined a game, got melee-juggled for ten minutes by some schmuck who knows a few teleport combos, and decided everything from there. Watch, I'll translate the initial post:

I just played online and I can pretty much state that this game.. is just in horrid condition, it's a truely nice effort though.
"Weird how the game I played was called DMZ but the forum here is called ESF. Oh well. This must be the right place."

I like the models, the model animations are totally great, the models themselves are perfect.
"It looks good."

I like the melee sequence, but it's extremely hard to pick up for someone who just jumped into the game ( like i just did. )
"I'm a big dumb son of a ***** and tried to play the most uniquely controlled game on the free market without even so much as glancing at the manual. I found this very difficult, but nevertheless, still have not bothered to read the melee instructions because I have played Counterstrike, so therefore I am quite able to understand any mod that was ever made just by joining a game."

There are just too many things that need to be tweaked.
"But I won't waste anybody's time mentioning them here."

Melee is over spammed. ( for lack of a better gaming term. )
""Some guy beat my ass mercilessly and I couldn't respond, because I never read the manual and didn't know that you could kick off of walls, teleport, beam jump, block, or counter."

There are just some things that are just pointless in the game, while that's really not totally important.. it jsut takes away from the complete playability, and balance of the game.
"I have no idea how to play this game."

There are things I like, and some things I don't like...
"I'm betting most of the things I like are actually in the manual...not that I'd know or anything."

but as of right now I really can't say I want to play this game.
"And I thought I'd register for this forum and tell you so. Because a person who tried the game, isn't ever going to play it, and doesn't like almost anything about it...well, really it makes a lot of sense to tell everyone in the community why. It's only proper."

I'm not being idiotic or stupid,
"I'm also not being educated, objective, inquisitive, or descriptive either."

I just want to let you guys know that I couldn't pick up this game and play it.
"...without the manual."

I liked the DB series, and I love the half-life engine, but this isn't that great of a job combining the two.
"Maybe next time I will play with my eyes open and with software rendering turned off, maybe even a broadbad machine. But as it stands right now, this is awful."

If you are saying, "Well, you couldn't do a better job." No, I probably couldn't, I don't know much higher level programming.
"Clearly I haven't the slightest idea how much effort and cleverness went into building this mod."

All in all, I say good job..
"This mod sucks! But once I figure out how to play it, I have a feeling I'll be eating my words."

but fix, Melee, some of the attacks, change how you double tap a movement button to move, ( sometimes i would try and side strafe out of someones melee range so i wouldnt get hit, but it was too slow if they are going forward. )
"Fix everything that is in the manual that I didn't read about. kthxbye."
<!-- / message -->
There are some constants:

"Melee is too overused" = "Some guy beat my ass and I couldn't even move"

"the other attacks are useless" = "I kept getting hit trying to make a huge spirit bomb in the middle of the map."

You get the idea.

I mean, bottom line. Did he really have to make one post to **** in all of our cheerios?

i totally agree with you, maybe the guy was over judging and he was stating an early opinion, but its his opinion, and it shouldn't be bashed.

i do agree with him that double tapping for swooping isn't always responsive enough, sometimes when i try to scape from someone by swooping, i start walking ... and i have the need for teleporting, imho instead of walking shift+direction should be for the stating the swooping (with this i mean that you don't need to hold shift down), faster, would work everytime. Plus what do you need walking so slowly for in esf?.

What the **** , he doesnt have an opinion , This was his first post , he just got his ass kicked or something , so he came here to whine about it , when a newbie joins the forum and the game and opens a thread like "Need some help im new " , i gladly enter and read what he wrote , but this guy right here has no opinion , he just played it 1-3 times and already thinks too many things needs to be tweaked , its not a true fan , its a "Flavour of the month" gamer

who the hell are u ppl to say he didnt read the manual?....did u go to his house and look over his shoulder while he installed the game and saw that he just jumped in?...no...even with the manual the game is hard to get the hang of because of the way the movment alone is set up...double tap swoop isnt exactly childs play...

and saiyan...u have no room to talk about *****in about melee...uve done it countless times in countless threads just because u get slapped around and "cant do anything about it"..just because he's a noob doesnt mean his opinion is any less valid than anyone elses...

tru its not very in depth...but if the team is wanting to make a well rounded game like so many of u have tried to say they are...then this guys thoughts would be important...as a first glance type of thing...the team can ask...is ESF something that can take the casual gamer and turn him/her into a fan...and from this guys point of view it isnt..so sue him..get off your high horse and stfu...its getting old

@Uub-> People like you go into "I hate 1.2" threads complaining about how ESF was made too noob friendly and lacks depth. I could probably pull a search and find some posts of yours that are just like that. Following that line of logic, a person being new should have trouble with the melee, and their opinion shouldn't matter until they've played for a while.

It's obvious to me that he had a hard time in game and came to post either out of frustration or because he felt he had a very important opinion. Since I don't see any actual content in his complaints, I'm assuming it's the first one. Somebody made him mad so he decided to make the entire community mad by passively and totally non-constructively blasting the game. If you haven't noticed he joined yesterday, posted yesterday, and hasn't visited the forums again sine he made the post.

I'll close this tonight if he doesn't come back to defend his points any, not that he has any points to defend.

from what ive seen so far this mod has one of the best teams i have ever seen even the big modifications like hostile intent dont have this good of a lineup so if your complaining about gameplay maybe it WOULD be a good idea to learn to play this game. it isnt just like you get on the computer and just because you played cs or hl doesnt mean your gonna be good this game requires training and thought as well as strategy. this game is the best halflife mod in my opinion so if your not doing anything to help the mod dont criticize it.

It's obvious that he didn't read the manual, because he said the same three usual things that people who don't read it complain about:

1.) He couldn't deal with more experienced melee players' attacks (because he didn't read the manual and had no idea that he could stop himself from flying through the air, or that he could kick off of walls instead of falling helplessly).
2.) He called attacks "useless"...that reeks of "SB in the middle of the map" syndrome
3.) He made the melee out to be a completely failed attempt...clearly he doesn't know the full spectrum of the gameplay.

Darkowns: I agree. Props to you, dude.

Uub; the pleasure is all mine, as always. My complaint was that there is a way to repeatedly hit a player where he has no means of doing anything about it. That's an old complaint, and it's irrelevant to this thread...

There is a sale at Home Depot. I'm sure you can find some wood there at a reasonable price. From there it should be pretty simple; build a bridge...and get over it already. Jeeze.

(EDIT: and for the record...didn't the guy who started this thread say he just jumped into the game anyway?)
