All I'm saying, man, is that it's really obvious he didn't give the game too much of a run through, because he ignored what depth it already has.
He made it out like this was the worst game he ever played; that's just a preposterous claim. Are there things that could use tweaking? Of course! Did he bother to tell us any? no. He just joined a game, got melee-juggled for ten minutes by some schmuck who knows a few teleport combos, and decided everything from there. Watch, I'll translate the initial post:
I just played online and I can pretty much state that this game.. is just in horrid condition, it's a truely nice effort though.
"Weird how the game I played was called DMZ but the forum here is called ESF. Oh well. This must be the right place."
I like the models, the model animations are totally great, the models themselves are perfect.
"It looks good."
I like the melee sequence, but it's extremely hard to pick up for someone who just jumped into the game ( like i just did. )
"I'm a big dumb son of a ***** and tried to play the most uniquely controlled game on the free market without even so much as glancing at the manual. I found this very difficult, but nevertheless, still have not bothered to read the melee instructions because I have played Counterstrike, so therefore I am quite able to understand any mod that was ever made just by joining a game."
There are just too many things that need to be tweaked.
"But I won't waste anybody's time mentioning them here."
Melee is over spammed. ( for lack of a better gaming term. )
""Some guy beat my ass mercilessly and I couldn't respond, because I never read the manual and didn't know that you could kick off of walls, teleport, beam jump, block, or counter."
There are just some things that are just pointless in the game, while that's really not totally important.. it jsut takes away from the complete playability, and balance of the game.
"I have no idea how to play this game."
There are things I like, and some things I don't like...
"I'm betting most of the things I like are actually in the manual...not that I'd know or anything."
but as of right now I really can't say I want to play this game.
"And I thought I'd register for this forum and tell you so. Because a person who tried the game, isn't ever going to play it, and doesn't like almost anything about it...well, really it makes a lot of sense to tell everyone in the community why. It's only proper."
I'm not being idiotic or stupid,
"I'm also not being educated, objective, inquisitive, or descriptive either."
I just want to let you guys know that I couldn't pick up this game and play it.
"...without the manual."
I liked the DB series, and I love the half-life engine, but this isn't that great of a job combining the two.
"Maybe next time I will play with my eyes open and with software rendering turned off, maybe even a broadbad machine. But as it stands right now, this is awful."
If you are saying, "Well, you couldn't do a better job." No, I probably couldn't, I don't know much higher level programming.
"Clearly I haven't the slightest idea how much effort and cleverness went into building this mod."
All in all, I say good job..
"This mod sucks! But once I figure out how to play it, I have a feeling I'll be eating my words."
but fix, Melee, some of the attacks, change how you double tap a movement button to move, ( sometimes i would try and side strafe out of someones melee range so i wouldnt get hit, but it was too slow if they are going forward. )
"Fix everything that is in the manual that I didn't read about. kthxbye."
<!-- / message -->
There are some constants:
"Melee is too overused" = "Some guy beat my ass and I couldn't even move"
"the other attacks are useless" = "I kept getting hit trying to make a huge spirit bomb in the middle of the map."
You get the idea.
I mean, bottom line. Did he really have to make one post to **** in all of our cheerios?
