Does this problem occur in any other HL-based games?

Try uninstalling esf then half life. Check your folders to make sure half-life and esf are removed. (Might want to reboot after uninstalling or before reinstalling to be safe) Once done reinstall half-life and esf 1.2.3.

When reinstalling, do I have to download hl again or does steam saves the installation?

By removing the hl folder, you don't have to redownload the game. The gfc files are still there which contains all the required files. You can find them in your steamapps folder. If you remove those, steam will redownload the game.

So do I need to reinstall via steam? Or is there a folder which contains the installation?
I will know if this helped only in about 12 hours or a bit later, thank you for your help.

I believe you can remove half life by right clicking on the game in your game list. I say believe as I barely remove my games.. I always remove them manually.

The very best there is.

That will also delete the local game cache.

1.Dude. Just wait until the server arrives. If its not working go to option, game and uncheck the lan box and you will find them.

(unchecking the lan can make people join your server ;) )

IF it still doesn't help and you have already disable firewall able it.

Okay heres the tip. Go to half life 1 engine and check for those servers.

2. Go back to esf 1.2.3 and wait for 2 minutes.

3. If not working unrefresh it and refresh it again as soon the servers pops up you'll be free to play online. I always do that since I got this game 3 months ago.
