I'm sorry to directly debate this, but I think it's way too premature to say that the DS is going to "screw [Nintendo] right then and there". As far as I can see, PSP games aren't being rated that much better than the DS games. They both need time to take off.Wolf Devil said:When I first heard they were going to make their next handheld "dual screen," my jaw almost literally hit the floor. I knew they were screwed right then and there.
I, for one, don't think that it would hurt too much if Nintendo stopped making consoles. If they were forced into Sega's position, I would still be happy. The main reason I buy Nintendo consoles is to get Nintendo games. I like them. When I've had an annoyingly long day at University complete with labs, I don't want to come home to an "uber-realistic" shooter or tactical simulator where I have to think my way carefully through every move and worry about being "pwnt" by "t3h pros". Sorry, I would have just spent the last 3 hours carefully planning out my lab procedures so that my grade doesn't get "pwnt" by "t3h TA". Nintendo games aren't overly violent or gorey, I know. They may also rehash an old formula, but it works, in my opinion. Their games are simple and very entertaining.
Therefore, I would hope that, if their new console doesn't take off, they stay around and create games as a third-party producer, or, at least, devote more time to the DS to make it something really special. I don't think Nintendo is screwed. Even if they are outdone in console sales, they can still remain to produce games for the other console(s). They are able to create games that are simple, but effective in entertaining the player. Even if they aren't the cup of tea of most members on this forum, there are several people my age that do find Nintendo's exclusive games very entertaining.
