Heh, my $4,000 computer just burnt up. Don't ever go to sleep if your computer is making funny noises... Luckily I keep a fire extinguisher in my garage, or I would have had to call the fire dpt. I sat in my room and cries for hours, as that's all you can really do when this happens.

Anyways, I need a new system now... Here were the specs on my old one. I just need help finding good replacements for them. Money is no object, so spit out what you think I should go with. Here are the old specs:

Mainboard: Nvidia nForce 4
Video Cards: Twin Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 ~ 3.4 Ghz ht
Sound Card: No idea, never cared...
RAM: 512 MB DDR 400

Some of those might be slightly off, as I didn't build the computer myself, and can't precisely say what they were. They're burnt to a crisp now, so definately no telling. Anyways, if someone can recommend some good replacements, I'd appreciate it.

Why don't you just get the same parts?

Because I want to know what the absolute best option is before I buy more parts.

I like everything that you listed above Overlord, but that Maxtor isn't worth it. My friend just happens to have that and dear lord it died in a week. He got another with his warrenty and died two weeks later.

I may suggest of getting a Digital Blue or a Western hard-drive.

And get a bigger case. I have a tower case for air to go through and buy heatsinks from doing that again.

Well, I've never used ATI before, and as such, I don't trust it much. More options please?

You left out part of the brand name, so I added it =P.

In that case, let's find a western digital hdd if those models are known for dying in a week (Could of been a faulty batch). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136003 - Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $133

As for a case, I looked through a few and think this should be good to go (I belive you once had a water coolnig setup, did you have water leak out all over your pc =P, in that case if you heard nosie you should of opened up your pc and checked for a leak and then take out your parts and let them dry in a place with a decent warm temp and replaced the water coolngi system imo). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133145 - Thermaltake SOPRANO VB1000BWS Black Computer Case With Side Panel Window - Retail.

That should do ;").

Ati can be trusted, there is no reason not to trust them. The driver issues they had way back when they first released 9700 based gfx cards no longer exist and they release drivers monthly, witch end up in performance increasements ofr games and a lot of bug fixes with each release. The only thing I can' trust in relation with ATI is one of there board partners (me ponits at gecube and my screwed up 9600XT Extreme >.>).

The same can be said about Nvidia, so I think I'm gonna stick with that.

This is from a post I made in another thread
Nvidia have the Geforce 7900 cards coming out at cebit on march 9th (same day as my birthday too =P). 7900GT will feature 24 pipes & will be clocked at 450/1320 & 7900GTX will feature 32 pipes 650/1600 (accordingly to the inquirer). These cards will replace The 7800 series of cards, and they are cheaper for nvidia to produce because the die size is now 90nm compared to 110nm on the 7800 cards. Nvidia should hopefully have stock the day the cards launch & it shouldn't hopefully be a paper launch.
It will be good to see how these cards perform, apparently or so I heard nvidia were aiming for a 700mhz gpu speed as rumours were going around that it would have to be atleast 700mhz core speed to beat the X1900XTX, but 32 pipelines for each clock cycle could very well combat the X1900 in some aspects.

I've heard it as well, I just wasn't thinking about it. I'll probably end up buying that in the end.

More than likely it'll have 24 pixel pipelines, not 32. Especially when looking at this:

Quick specifications for GeForce 7900 GTX:

* PCIe native
* 655MHz core frequency
* 256-bit memory interface
* 52GB/sec. memory bandwidth
* 15B pixels/sec. fill rate
* 1450M vertices/sec.
* 24 pixels per cycle
* Built in twin dual-link DVI support for twin 2560x1600 resolution displays"

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=915
An X1900XTX is the highest of the high end atm, and will serve you extraordinarily well in Unreal 3 type games. It doesn't have 48 pixel pipelines itself, it's just got the shading power of 48 (16 pipes - 3 shaders per pipe - 48), and U3 type games have extremely sophisticated shading in them. The lesson behind video cards these days is to not judge them by the amount of "pipez" or "pixil shadrs" or by their "megahurtz", but by their architecture and their speed in actual games. Something could look amazing on paper (5800Ultra), but perform abysmal.

I did here people going "it will have 32 pipes, no wait it will have 24 pipes" & Generaly was confused exactly as to what it would be. According to the inquirer it said the performance gap between the two models would be huge so I figured it may have 32 pipes. 7800 cards (GT & GTX) may become heavily priced down & may be a good thnig to grab (the 256mb models atleast, the 512gtx models are rare and expensive, and g71 is already cheaper for nvidia to produce, hence greater volumes of there high end product, you can also purchase 512mb 7800gt cards with faster clocks that are made by gainward too).

If your'e going nvidia I'd reccomend getting this mainboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136166 - DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $189.99.

Therein lies your problem. The Inquirer is a good place to get your hopes up/down, but not a good place to actually believe in. ATi actually sends tons of false clues to them just for the fun of it.

Could say the same, because theinq is saying the board will have 24 pipes.

Anyhow, who cares, let them prices drop!
