so anyway, with Metallicas final studio album almost ready, i'm pretty excited about it. the producer who's recording with them has turned just about everything he's touched to gold, and with a statement from Lars that the "new sound" is somewhere between Ride the Lightning, and Puppets, it should be very thrashy... which is good!

if the album does very well, the band will probably keep touring until one of them dies. if it does badly they will probably stop touring, which will suck.

as for slipknot, i've loved the bands progression through music, as well as Corey Tailor's progression as a singer! he's by far and wide one of the best frontmen of this generation.

check the guitar solo (that's right, slipknot have guitar solos!), it's meaty as hell =o

your thoughts?

I hope they don't suck. I like them both and don't want to see them fail.

I doubt Death Magnetic is their last album. In fact, I recall Ozzy retiring twice.

It's just not going to happen, Metallica has a love affair with the almighty dollar. Remember Lars, it's not the billions you make off your album, it's the time you spent with it that counts.

From what I've heard, the music is very thrashy but not the Mighty Met of old. It sounds like Load/Reload had a lovechild with Puppets, and got old met attitude with new met sound.

As for Slipknot, Nu-Metal is fail. Thrash is god.

Listed as Alt Metal, Nu Metal and Rap Metal on Wikipedia. I lump most new metal bands in with Nu Metal.

Every heavy metal band after Pantera was made of fail and lose. And even Pantera began to contract scream and poop disease in the end.

I hate the way people clump together some bands in the nu-metal genre. Just because Slipknot has a guy that plays the turntables does not mean that they are nu-metal. Especially with their newer sound, they have definitely been getting less and less associated with nu-metal. I personally can't wait for their new album, Psychosocial is an awesome song and their last album was amazing.

As for Metallica, I did like St. Anger for awhile, but more recently I've come to realize that anything after the Black album sucks like most people, even though I hated people for saying that. A new song of theirs was played on the radio the other day, it was alive version and I couldn't really tell if I liked it or not. I hope for them and the love of metal they finally put out an album their fans can appreciate.

Not sure about Metallica anymore. Just checked their new song on their site/myspace, it's a lot better than St. Anger, but it just sounds like they're trying too hard to be the Metallica of 20 years ago. It sounds forced and fake. Hetfield's writing skills have been better as well.. "Love is a four letter word" .. wtf?

Slipknot, however, have been in an upwards curve. I've always been a "fan" of Slipknot since the old days (before Taylor became the lead-singer), and they've always made music that seems to stick to me in some way or another. Sure, it can be labeled as nu-metal just because of the entire attitude of the music and the general sound they produce, but this last album (and the Subliminal Verses as well) have been a huge stop upwards for them. They evolved a lot musically and they've come to a point where they could step away from nu-metal label and be concidered as a next generation in metal. Just like Black Sabbath -> Metallica.
