My current card is an Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT .

It is fairly good, but i want a better one, and with the money my mother gives me each week (10 euro per week), i can get a good graphics card if i start gathering money for it :)

I want one that has a medium price but is still awesome.

Which one should i get?

ATI cards are cheaper and i've heard a lot of ppl praise their quality except they don't support Nvidia PhysX but if you have a motherboard with 2x PCI-e x16 slots you can use that 9600GT as your physx card.

What's your budget? Currently, the GTX460 1gb version is the best card in regards to price/performance. It will cost around $200. It goes neck to neck with a AMD radeon 5850, which is a good $50 more expensive. Right now I'd say it's the only nvidia card worth getting.

I'll agree with the Nvidia GTX460 1GB model. AMD Radeon 58xx+ isn't a bad investment either, but as quoted by Kam, they are more expensive at the moment. At this point in time, its really hard to lose with any choice you make in the 4xx and 58xx/59xx line up. Pick a price you can resonably afford, and hit it. 57xx parts aren't bad, but they aren't fantastic either, equal to the 48xxHD models, but with DX11 support.

Is there such a card as HD 5780? I think you mean 5870.

I just got a XFX HD 5770 (Upg'd from HD 3650), I haven't really tested it out too much yet but I can run StarCraft 2 on Ultra with very little slow down and on high with no problem.

Also what are the rest of the specs (including PSU) for your computer it may help determine which video card would be best suited for your system.

The difference between ATI and Nvidia cards is pretty much personal preference, some games run a bit better on Nvidia, some a bit better on ATI, not really a big deal imo.

GTS 250. The best for its price range ie around $120. Ofcourse if you've got more dough, spend it.

Yea i meant 5780... typing fast while feeling sleepy is not a good combo. I wasn't aware that Nvidia released a cheaper card that's equivalent to ATI ones

Also, at least in my experience, Nvidia drivers are generally better. When new Ati cards are out, the first 3-4 patch updates are to make games work at all or without glitches, whereas with nvidia games mostly work from the start, and each patch adds performance.

With that said, stay away from the GTX480, that is overpriced and runs way too hot. Same with GTX470, while the price is alright for the performance, heat and power consumption is not. The 460 1GB is a new revision of the core, runs just as cool (if not cooler) than the ati core, while also not sucking up more power.
worst card from nvidia has to be the GTX465, it's a harvested part that's just terrible. The GTS 450 might be worth looking at, haven't read reviews yet.
Anything Ati 58xx is good as well, stay away from 57xx parts unless seriously budget constrained.

Also worth noting that within 6 months or so, amd/ati 's new architecture will hit the market, which means dropped prices for current hardware or better hardware for today's prices.

Kam, AMD has been much better about hardware drivers than ATi ever was. While what you are saying was once true, I have owned a ATi cards for many years and only very infrequently had issues with new games. Windows 7 drivers were a minor issue at first, but the Vista drivers worked just fine.

Well I only talk from the experience a friend of me has, and he's constantly *****ing about current ati/amd drivers. It's mostly related to certain combinations of features, like AA and stuff sometime producing black textures and all other crazy ****. He's not very happy about it.

I got my GTX 465 before the GTX 460 hit the market, and I've loved it every single moment I've had it. The 460 is mostly a sidestep from the 465, fixing some minor issues like heat and power usage. I'd say go with the GTX 460 if you really want bang for your buck.

Just upgraded from a 9600gt to a 5770 last week, wanted a 460, but already spent ****loads on my cpu, ram, case and mobo. It gets the job done. If you can afford a 460 1gb, get it, 460 768MB versions got a price drop last week, they offer great performance, but very bad future proofing, with current games requiring at least 768mb of vram to run "decently" at higher resolutions. Personally, i'd save up and get the 460 1gb version, if not, the 5770 1gb is still a big upgrade from the 9600gt :> (speaking from experience ;] ) As for PhysX, wouldn't really worry about that, it's overrated and VERY underused atm. nVidia also have plenty of their own driver problems. Twice over the last 12 months, I had to roll back drivers because of bluescreening in games and while watching my porn. Was not pleased.

Remember, AMD hasn't had many problems driver wise, ATi is pretty much long gone at this point.
