need help memebers of esf

hey this question might already be answered but please help me anyway

hey i installed the full version of esf and the patch but when i double click on the icon on my desktop to play, steam pops up with a window asking a registration key....does anyone know what im talking about with steam? i mean can someone help me out here. I downloaded it and it's a third party game so why can't i play it if i install in properly? i better not need a cd key for this peice here.

what game cdkey did you use when you registered for a steam account?

You need a valid cdkey from either halflife, generations pack or retail mod (except condition zero) to be able to play halflife and its mods.

Do you have a valid cdkey?
