Enjoy being broke on that i7 ;P Or is it one of the cheaper ones? Otherwise that's reasonably close to what I'm looking at building within a month or two. How's your cooling? The Core iX series can safely and stably be OC'd pretty easily.

GPU ~70°C
CPU ~30°C

even when playing good games...... the differences are the speed fans rpm :p

and its one of the "cheaper" ones and yeah i could overclock it to ~4Ghz without problems, but currently its not needed....4 Cores + Hyper Threading = 8 logical cores

I'd suggest to put a fan near the intake of the video card to offer better airflow. That will reduce your temps by up to 20C. Depending on your case airflow.
and that CPU isn't quite the best one to use if you want to overclock your 480. The 480 and 470 were meant to shine on the 980x.

Anyway... Nice PC man!
Maybe you can post some benchmarks of Unigine 2.0 sometime.

1000 RPM HDD? That's not very fast eh? You should've gone for an SSD.

I'm looking at maybe a smaller SSD for windows and then like a 1T 7200 RPM HDD. 70 C is really good for a GTX 480 as well. What was the total spent (in euros and USD?)

No kidding. Then again, he could have made it cheaper without dropping the actual quality of the software. It's not like the i7 is miles ahead of the i5.

That is a whole lot to put in a computer, but I guess if you are into modeling, editing and so on you need a good rig.

I never spent that much...

Actually, the i7 has some VERY large advantages, especially for future proofing purposes. All the i5s are Socket LGA 1156, and the chips + mobos can only support one PCIe 2.0 @ 16x. You can install multiple PCIe 2.0 devices on some mobos, but they'll only run at 8/4/2x a piece, depending on the number of devices. Some mobos have the capcity to run 2 PCIe 2.0 video cards in SLI at x16 each due to some chip on the board. The key difference with the new i7s is that they're socket LGA 1366 and can run multiple PCIe 2.0 devices at x16, including SLIx3, PCIe SSDs, etc. So i7 setups are much more modular and will adapt better to new tech than i5, which is my current quandary.

Moot since he does have an 1156 i7 :p.

For those close to 3k bucks you could've gotten an 1366 and that hexacore i7. Where did all that money go? My i7 setup weighs in at ~1200€ (that is with 400€ for the GTX 280 close to launch).

No offense but I think with some consideration to parts you could've saved close to 800€ without sacrificing any perf. Or superior performance for the same price (Core components of a 980X setup (no HDD, disk drive) cost 2100€ where I buy WITH 500€ wasted on a gtx 480 :p (and no cheapo MB either)
