Sony Vegas.
If you're after the best quality one, FinalCut is the **** you're looking for, this is hollywood industry stuff. Damn expensive though. Vegas should be good enough though.

For music I recommend FruityLoops
For pictures I recommend Adobe Photoshop CS3

What spunky said, I don't have CS3 though, only recently upgraded to CS2.
FruityLoops studio is great for making music as well, been using it for almost 5 years now. Think Sony has a music editing/creating application as well, can't remember the name of it though; think it was Acid or something

Isn't FinalCut a MAC exclusive?

I recommend Adobe Premiere, though that's because it's the only other video editing program I've tried more than once. It's a big step up from Windows Movie Maker, but it's definitely better. I'm about to make a switch myself since Windows Movie Maker is pissing me off more than it usually does.

I recommend using FruityLoops (as Spunky and Ness suggested). For making sounds from scratch, well, you need a good microphone and a sound editing program. I recommend GoldWave for sound editing and recording.

For pictures, Adobe Photoshop CS3.
