And another one! What do you feel about this? Is it spamming or skill use? Express your opinons, but please don't flame or start making accusations. Personally I feel that at a certain border melee gets very generic and spamming. However, if two fighters use resourceful techniques and vary the many attacks it won't be spamming anymore.. I don't like people who always, and I mean always use basic melee and nothing else. But it's still ok with me since you can defend it and it's honorable.

It takes a while to beome great with basic melee, you can't do that within a week. If you CAN you need to repitively practise. With beams, it is purely based on pl difference. Within 2 days, someone can learn how to shoot beams. IF a beam spammer at 7,000,000 pl is versing a 700,000 pl basic melee spammer, it's only the beam spammers comupterized power that give him advantage, not personal skill. BUT melee can get stale and boring if dawn out too long.

You need an official sounding article for this to make more sense o_o.

People who practice one technique and constantly use it over and over is spam. No matter what way you look at it. Playing to win may be fun for you but its a real drag on everybody else.

hmm maybe so the other day i was attacking some1 with basic melee and whooping their ass

the they say "Stand still so i can adv melee you, then we'll see whos best" thinking they are all powerfull

they enter adv melee and i pull off 5 punch combos, then they say "thats cheating" i say "No, i have practised"

i then tell them "Practise on me with basic melee"

they do, then i tell them to "practise the combos, first watch the moves i do leading to a combo, work them out then try them on me"

they do

by the end we are evenly matched, i feel great becuase someone else feels, great

and i'm a kind guy so i like to help people, i dont want people being sad because i woop them i want a challenge, and i want them to be good

thus making the game better as we all become pros and we have to try ever more elabourate techniques to win, pushing our skills and minds to the limits

all people have their own way of fighting. if you complain by how they fight they you should just beat them up to shut them up. it's a game, people use tactics. usually in games you play to win and have fun. if someone keeps killing you whether it be through melee or beams, guess what, they found a tactic to win. it's harder to fight people who can change their tactics and fight to their max with each different tactic they can use. those who only use one tactic who spam it over and over again actually should be EASIER because you know how they fight. thus if you really are good, you can find a way around their one use tactic to beat them up.

stop the moaning, complaining, whining, and just play arghhh

oh btw majinvegeta_tim, reading ur post its PRACTICE, not practiSe.. hehe

people who do basic melee all the time = boring but if they deside to switch it up with a little adv melee here a beam there then things become interesting

then it becomes a prediction game :D but i had one kid say learn "honorable" melee which in his mind must mean adv melee considering i was whooping him with basic....but how can adv be "honorable" and basic be "dishonorable"? o well

as for those who can't do basic melee they shouldn't disregard not knowing it they should try it out and become better at it...same goes for those who dislike adv melee :D

sooo basicly melee spam isn't all that bad niether is beam spam it just how u do it and how often you use it

Personally i think u call someone a spammer if you cant counter the "Spamming" he does.
Apart from that the only way of spamming i see in the game are krillins sitting in a corner scattering the whole place and run away when someone comes close to them.
And yeah i can counter the scatterbeams (Sometimes =) )

That's very noble of you, but he wanted you to stand stilll to see who's the best? how does that work? When I basic melee someone who sucks at it, if they say they don't like it, i'll switch to advanced melee for awhile, which is a tad annoying to just switch gameplay just because another one can't get keep up...But if they say "GOD STOP WITH THE ****ING MELEE" then it's time to "play to win".

Ive been around the block with different tactics...i think most of the people that have fought me know this...meleespamming is different from beam spamming. Close range vs far range will always be different. We all know this game has disadvantages for both types of fighting, melee and beam based.

I get yelled at a lot for throwing people...getting the "Throw n00b" comments left and right and that i only throw. This comes from people that only do melee or beams. You use what works. We all know how these things go, i know we all aren't new to this game. We get these things all the time. It is just a matter of how to play the game.

This is why i mostly only do 1 vs 1's. We have a set guide of rules, and from those rules...anything is open season that isn't barred. that way there is an understanding of what IS allowed and what ISN'T allowed. if you come to an agreement, spamming just doesn't mean anything.

If you allow it...people will use it...people will abuse it...and there ain't a damn thing anyone can do about it.

Sorry for the rambling but just wanted to give my 2 cents in before anything bad happens

Spamming melee is uh... not possible. Since melee involves combat with only one other opponent and requires several hits to kill someone, I don't see how you can spam melee. Spamming an attack means doing something rapidly while trying to kill people as quick as possible. Beams can be considered spam because someone is firing them off one by one and killing people in 1 or 2 hits. Spamming melee isn't as quick and surely isn't the fastest way to kill someone.

I think the best term for this thread is melee whoring, which came about in 1.1 when 90% of the game was melee. Whoring was a player, generally an elite, who would move from one player to another, killing each as quickly as possible with melee. Most of the time, he wouldn't allow his opponent the chance to breath after respawning either.

You knew you were whoring when you out-manuveur someone's beam and hit him, only for that person to respond with "Damnit I don't want to melee". Soon after he'll be killed another 5 or 6 times just because you know he hates it when you melee.\

There was another term called "Galee" that someone called me once for hitting them with melee where they would be knocked back to the floor, then I would throw an sbc or some ki-blasts while they were down, killing him usually. I'm not sure how much of that goes on in 1.2 though. =\

It's a difficult balancing act, honestly. When you're getting utterly destroyed by some guy who's hitting you with melee enough that you can't move or block to respond...I think that counts as spam, but there is the fun factor to consider. For the guy doing it, it's awesome--the player getting it done to him only one (completely unreasonable) option: don't ever get hit at all.

That means you have to be phenomenal at the game to enjoy it at all, if you are facing a talented melee player. I'm not TERRIBLE at the game, only average--but if I run into one of those exceedingly difficult-to-handle melee masters, you wouldn't know I even know how to play. I dodge as much as I can, but inevitably the guy is going to hit me once or twice no matter WHO I am or how I play. Then the game becomes nothing more than me or whoever getting bounced around constantly, which is just ridiculous. There is no real way to balance this out; it just is a matter of players overusing a single tactic, which I think counts as spam.

There's a difference to me, between 'using' melee, and 'spamming' it.

The way I see it, spam is something that requires little to no effort.
Spam can also be trying to target as many people as possible to inflict the most amount of damage.
So sitting in a corner and charging up blasts would be spam. It really doesn't take that much to do (only a high power level) and most of the time you can pick off two or three players at a time.

I don't think it's possible to melee spam. Maybe it's just me. For reasons I've stated above and also because:
Something that is put into the game, that is meant to be used 90% of the time cannot possibly considered spam. I mean, if that were the case, everyone in CS would be bullet spammers. OMFG!

I do agree it is kind of disheartening to get whooped around like a complete noob and stand no chance. It happens every now and then to everyone. Some people just aren't that good, some people just have bad days. I don't think it's compareable to beamspam though.

know what the problem is there? you are playing like you are inferior and you are playing the way that person wants you to play against them. You say you try to dodge them as much as possible but they will sooner or later hit you...why don't you try to hit them? you may not be good at melee but sometimes people that are good...get over confident and mess up. That is what using melee is...who messes up first is what i see it as now at the level that i am at. We all know what we are doing but it is just who uses the right set up.

I don't mind getting whipped around too much but honestly sometimes it is out of control. If you're an uber elite player and you beat a guy down to 20 hp and KNOW he just isn't going to mount a massive offense against you, well the bottom line is, there's no need to brutalize him so much.

Spam is conducive directly to one-sided fights and in ANY game or ANY competition, one-sidedness sucks.

Take the World Series, for example: Sox Vs. Yankees -- A tight nail-biter, and exciting and straightforward match up between two teams playing at relatively balanced levels of skill and ability. Sox Vs. Cardinals -- A boring slaughter.

Either way I think the two (beam and melee spam) are related in that way. That's why they piss people off so much, respectively. They make the fight one-sided and then it's not even a fight anymore.

And Pain--like I said, the key is the difference between "using melee" and "spamming melee." Using it 90% of the time is one thing--but when a guy melees you 50 times in 4 seconds and you are helplessly flying all over the map, I think it can be considered spam. I mean...it's just unnecessary to hit the guy so much when he's already hurt and sent flying. At THAT point, I'd consider it to become spam.

im sorry but i must agree with 17..mellee has been around for a while...and although beams did come first..i see mellee fights as much more challenging..i man beam fights alone can be hard..but to be honest..any goku/buu can win a beam fight due to the power of their beams...alot of chars are over powered with starting PL's...therefore beam fights tend to be unfair..but mellee fights..well those are a bit more even...sure PL makes a diff on howmuch damage u do..but usually when 2 chars start..its not as huge as a dif as if it was a beam fight...thats mainly why i perffer mellee over beams..i mean sure a PS is fun here and there..and maybe a few beam kills...but when i play ESF...i mellee 98% of the time..because that to me takes timing, precision,ki management, and a general understanding of how the mellee system works..with beams...well...anyone can shoot a mouthblast with buu and hit someone just by blowing it up near them (which i personally think is a stupid ability...noone in DBZ ever blew up their beams like we do in ESF) so when i get hit by beams...im not impressed..anyone can kill me with a beam...but if u kill me with mellee...well..then u have truley surprised me :)

Meleespamming? well thats a new one for me. whats next? Teleportspamming? Jumpspamming? Flyspamming? Walkspamming?
Melee is one of the many ways to kill someone in ESF, if people prefer it better than Beams then let them do it! You dont like it then dont play with "Meleespamers". Im sorry i didnt read the whole thread but its sounds just as stupid as saying "GUNSPAMMER!" in The Specialist.

well if i'm swooping and teleporting to basic melee them they struggle to adv melee me, so i just float still in middair

noblity=arrogance=pride all come back to trying to get into the rold of vegeta :p taking that game a little bit further and letting imagination run wild ;D
