the bump mapping does aadd more to it, but just how hl is the texture is just too low quality to really have bump mapping to its full potnential, since it works best with real time light sources and real time shadows. but nice none the less.

hl1 textures have more detail in it than doom3 textures (without bumpmap)

doom3 textures are 2 color textures with bumpmaps, reflection maps and some other plastic stuff

The following screenshot is a small teaser to the graphical goodies that you guys will see when we release soon. You can see the new water (a little only though), the new blur, the new glow, pixel shading madness, 24-bit textures, and best of all - this works on both ATI and nVidia cards. There are also lots of CVAR's to customize the amount of blurring/glow and other options - or you could just turn everything off!

thats amazing for hl1... but with all the talk about water i was wondering if you could capture that as well
