Which, if any, do you study*?

I'm aware there are multiple styles (Shotokan Karate, Kobukai Jiu-Jitsu etc...) so the options are just generalizations. If you want to specify then feel free to. Ditto for grades/tags/belts.

*by study I mean 'go to lessons', not 'read websites about'

I study (just started) Tae Kwon Do (arts - yellow belt) and Jiu Jitsu (self-defence - white belt n00b). 2 lessons a week for each :fight:

Myself, I'm a Tae Kwon Do man. I'm actually almost a black belt.

Right now I have a Green belt 2 stripes. I jsut gotta pass my next test to get Red, then I get Red-black, then unto the ultimate, Black belt. I've been in karate for almost 9 years now, and I muist say, I'm sure as hell glad i never quit

Just don't give it. It may be a ***** at times, but just keep at it. It's worth it in the end.

I was actually tempted to put 'CQC' as an option for you, Gir, but alas, not enough spaces ;_;

Should've put Kung Fu and Wrestling too really.

EDIT: Kain, once you've got the Black Belt, you have to start earning your dans. Once you get to third/final dan, then you'll be the ultimate =D

Hahaha, I know, I wasn't taking the piss, you told me you were doing it.

I prefer Martial Arts for self defence (and flashy kicks) rather than breaking someones arm in three places though :p

I attended Tae-Kwon-Do for about 8 years. I was a Recommended Phase 2 Black Belt (The belt had a blue bar through the middle of the belt; the last belt before Black Belt). I had to quit due to inability to pay for classes and due to a bad back injury. I am currently self-training and self-teaching myself, coming up with different techniques or some off-the-top-of-my-head fighting styles (just to mess around and help train).

I am also reading Sun Tzu's: Art of War which I would highly recommend to any Martial Artist as it teaches how to win a battle without fighting or if need be; how to effectively engage in combat. Word for the wise: Art of War is a very long book (depending on which translation you buy) and sometimes it is hard to follow.

I am planning on looking for some Martial Arts studios (dojos) in the future, more likely Akido, Tai Chi, or Kung Fu.

I am sorry if all of this is more than what would be considered enough, I am dead tired from work.

Judo, Ju Jitsu, Wing Chun kung fu. received a black belt in judo and ju jitsu around teh age of 17...rently within the past 2 years i received a black belt in Wing chun.

i messed up a bit using 2 japanese styles first then switching to one that is of chinese origin. Doesn't really change much but some people say you should stick with one origin...personally i like all

Not really a martial art, but I've been boxing for like 10 years. I never really took it too seriously, and actually registered myself and had official boxing matches. But my dad was a boxer back in the day, and coaches to this day (He coached the British Columbia provincial team a few years ago in fact), so whenever i'm not feeling too lazy, I try and get some training in. I haven't done too much for the past few years, but i'm thinking about really getting into it in the near future. Although, with my track record, who knows when i'll get around to it. :p

Bruce Lee said not to stick to one style o_O.

I took Wing Chun Kung Fu when I was 5. I think I quit 3 or 4 months later.

I really would not know where to find a local Tai Chi school, so read books adn research about it. No it wasnt like I saw DBZ for the first time, then started reading chi articles on google for about a week.

I have done plenty of excercises regarding Tai Chi, not on the martial level yet, but more of controlling and/or focusing chi, and it actually helps. I can make myself stronger, faster, or more alert by will for a short period of time, that's why I asked AxMan about a good upper body strength work out, so if my base level increase, my 'hieghtened' abiltity will increase as well.

Oh, and Tiger Shulman's karate for 2 years, if that counts :p

I have studied Tae Kwon Do for 9 years, Tiger Claw for one, and I have learned bits and peices of Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, Akido, Judo, Jujitsu, Muy Thai Kickboxing, white crane, tai-chi, greco-roman wrestling, and Karate. I currently hold a red belt with one black bar through the middle (black belt assistant) though at the time I stopped going I could have succesfully tested for my second degree black belt. (Lack of funds!)

I placed 3rd in sparring twice at state level competitions (1994 State Open, 1994 State Championships both in Pennsylvania), third in forms (1994 State Open), and first in board breaking (1994 State Open). I ranked 40th in the united states during the 1994 USTU Nationals, which is an olympic qualifying event. Sadly, 40th isn't enough to move on to the selection process. Maybe someday my daughter will finish my dream for me.
