iv always wondered this for years how come you guys just didn't change the skins of the characters and change the sounds names of attacks and just make a huge profit off of this game?
After so many years why not? I know you like dragon ball and want the game to be free and all but have you ever just thought about it its not like people wouldn't pay to play

DBZ is licenced if we switch out the characters it wouldnt be DBZ anymore and if we try to sell it otherwhise we would be in trouble.

In any case there is 1 more release of ESF before we stop.

ppl like to do things for appreciation some times, real fans and capable developers do that for hobby, only a douch would do that for profit, and it would be 1/9 or the real work these guys do here just for appreciation. The real honor comes with hard work and no profit, not real profit and shi.t work.

Even if all the names, attacks, characters gets changed and being outside the license of DBZ.. We couldn't sell it regardless as this mod is still tied to Half-Life 1. And as long it is a mod, and VALVe wouldn't come to us to sell the mod through steam. We are unable to sell it as per agreement of the usage of the SDK.

As Sky said, they would have to recreate the entire game again, with the use of a different engine. This would require you to either buy a license of that engine, which costs a lot of money, or build an engine yourself, which costs a lot of time..further increasing the development time.

Secondly, changing the names, models, and everything else will not ensure the same amount of popularity ESF has 'now' (read: when ESF:Final is released). DBZ is still very popular, and mix it with ESF, you'll get a widely known format combined with a good game. Take DBZ out of that equation, and you will have to spend extra time into creating something unique AND make sure the crowd knows about it and likes it. That last bit is very hard. Just look at Bid For Power, they stopped using DBZ, started using their own characters, and the game completely fell apart. Shortly afterwards, it pretty much died out.
