Hopefully, someone will know the book I'm talking about.
From what I can remember, the book was about a boy who ran away from home and had some kind of car. The boy also pretty much lived in that car. The boy eventually meets these two ex-military guys, who journeyed with him. The only other part I can remember is that at the end of the book, they were being chased by some kind of biker gang, and both of the ex-military guys decided to stay behind and fight.
