In light of all of these cases, I figured he was just like any other common politician: trying to raise a ruckus to get his name out there, and attacking a common, misunderstood target is an easy way to do that. After seeing those messages from him personally, however, I think I actually hate the guy.

I read in a recent OPSM (UK, July, Issue 061), a letter from an ex criminal who had got into a lot of trouble for stealing cars and fighting. He said basically that if anything, Gta and similar games have helped him stay away from doing it again.

The thing is unless they have actuall proof that games encourage violence, there is nothing much they can do. Proof doesn't include "I saw it on GTA and I thought it would be fun!!"

As for why they go after Grand Theft Auto and nothing else...GTA = biggest selling game of last year, next to things like Halo 2...yet there is no way in hell they are going to step to Microsoft because they have not a stone's chance in hell of beating Bill Gates in one of these debates.

I've explained a thousand times what this guy stands to gain from this...

He's not just some crazy, he's using the angle and using it very masterfully. I already explained why he ignores the ESRB ratings...they want to prove the ESRB as unfit for their duty so that they can depose the ESRB itself (which was created by the game industry, NOT the federal government, in order to fall in line with political demands).

Basically the Republitards screwed themselves over by allowing them to formulate their own agency, because even though the fed pigs had reviewed the ratings systems AND OKAYED THEM...their hope was to cripple games like Grand Theft Auto. That didn't happen, and now they have this sexual content loophole...

See, in the US sexual content is explicitly illegal to minors, while violence is more in the gray area (i.e. I couldn't buy a Hustler mag till I was 18...but I could buy 'Guns and Ammo' and 'Hunter's Companion' magazines fine). So finding this sexual content was the best thing to ever happen to Watchdog/Law Pig Jack Thompson. Now he had legitimate grounds to demand cessation of certain games' productions.

He is working under people who allowed the ESRB to be created under the assumption that violent or sexual games would be culled. Instead, allowing the creation of the ESRB has backfired in the Lieberman Regime's faces, as they now cannot even protest games like GTA because of the label on the box clearly identifying that minors shouldn't play it.

But the sexual content is enough for them to call the ESRB incompetent or accuse them of intentional bias. Thus trying to dethrone the ESRB so they can get control of this thing.

I mean, what the ****...bully probably doesn't have anything in it even REMOTELY as sexual or as violent as GTA does...and even besides that, think of this: A game is rated adult only. That means they aren't allowed to put it on the shelves of the store? It has to only be sold in porno shops (I love that suggestion...you know how many sixteen year olds are going to use their fake IDs to go to porno stores now? heh, good one Thompson).

I can't state this enough: Being rated adult only does not mean that it should be treated like hardcore pornography! Let it stay on the shelves, let people have to show ID to get it, etc...these other demands are ****ing ridiculous. I hope the ESRB and Rockstar fight this one all the way to the death.

I wish there was someplace WE could go, to protest. We work mostly at our precious computers...but what if we could all get together somewhere, on the steps of Capitol Hill maybe, or perhaps outside Jack's office even...and blare video game music soundtracks and hold some signs and hell, just make a little political noise of our own.

I'm sorry but it just drives me crazy that WE are the people who are being most directly affected by this--NOT the game companies, NOT the ESRB, and definitely NOT the politics--and yet we sit here and do nothing.

We need to find a way to make our voices heard. It could be the difference maker, in what is rapidly becoming a more and more volatile situation....

I'm partly amused and partly saddened by this whole ordeal, seeing as how I don't live in America and don't directly have to deal with all this incompetence.

On the other hand, if those idiots manage to **** up the gaming industry, which is what will eventually happen if things continue along this path, it will eventually also hurt me, because games might be stopped mid-development if they are deemed too violent or otherwise, which in turn means I won't get to play what I want to play.

I wish I could help, but I'm not sure what I could do.

No I doubt those emails were fake. There are a good number of sites out there which have posted emails from jack...even after polite responses he flips out unless you are agreeing with him completely. I'm sure he wants to be able to throw the "I'm being harassed by crazy gamers see how evil games make people??" card out there. I'm not sure if everyone here has kept up with things this crazy has been doing, but the list goes on and on. After going after GTA:SA he turned around and went after The sims 2.

I believe this move on bully was to draw attention away from the big mess up he made in his move on the sims. You see when he went after the sims he claimed that with a simple code(input into the console) you could see fully rendered naked sims(children and adult) and make them engage in fully visible sexual acts. After it was proven to him...not once but at LEAST twice that I know of he finally admitted that it was not on the orginal sims disk. Though he claims that EA encourages mods that do these things. Needless to say I think this attack on The Sims hurt his rep so he needed a bad guy to get the people who were starting to think he was a wacko back to his cause. Well of course theres always rockstar who they already won a case against...Those guys are pure evil right? So they targetted a game that had just been anounced...nothing more then a title had really been said about it at the time.

This whole movement if it keeps going is nothing but harmful to the gaming industry. I'm not sure everyone is aware of the details, but basicly what this guy is doing is going after mods for games. If these mods make the game different from the rating they were given an attack comes. If this continues games will start to become harder and harder to mod. There is already talk of pushing publishers to take legal actions against modding their games...The craziness just goes on and on.

Ok so people might say well "hot coffee" mod only enabled content within the game. To this I say yes, but it is still a mod...It modifies how the dev team intended the game to be played. They may have at one point intended to have this mini-game within GTA, but whether due to rating or deadlines coming they ditched it. Now I'm sure at least some of you are aware that while making a game pieces get packed together here and there. In the end perhaps the "hot coffee" aspect of the game would of taken too much time to remove and so they simply disabled it. Lord knows lately games are getting pushed out the door before they are really ready...so why spend time removing every last bit of something when you can simply disable it and move on?

You know I find it extremely funny though. This jack fellow targets these things that I only see as mild sexual content(hot coffee) and family games(the sims) when there is so much worse out there. I'm sorry but to find these mods takes at least a little knowledge of the internet and with that much knowledge you can find so much worse. Heck while attacking the sims he says you have to go to porn sites to get the mods(which I doubt but anyway). So he has the problem with porn sites having naked skins for video games, but no problem with how easy it is to access porn sites? Why not attack spam mail? Lord knows I'm getting tired of being told how my penis size can be enlarged...Or how debbie and her friend are ready to perform for me on their own personal webcam...Now that is one push I'd support someone on. This crazy just needs someone above him to say "cut the crap" and disbar him.

note about "hot coffee": To the best of my knowledge the orginal mini-game created by rockstar was fully clothed...The version jack went against was one which had been modded to add fully naked models.
