Jack Thompson is attacking Rockstar games and Take Two, yet again. This time about their upcoming game, Bully (the thing is though, Rockstar has released NO details about the gameplay. We don't even know if this game will be bad yet). He protested outside Rockstar's offices the other day with a group named "Peaceoholics". They held signs saying things like "Put the cuffs on Rockstar, not youth" and "Prosecute Rockstar Games; they are felons". If that wasn't ridiculous enough, listen to this. They made a list of demands for Rockstar games to do, all of which were absurd.

  • Not to release Bully under any circumstances.
  • Volunteer to sell its violent and sexually explicit games in adult video stores only.
  • Let parents return Grand Theft Auto for a full refund until they do a national awareness campaign to educate parents of content and possible effects.
  • Create a fund for victims of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and car-jackings, etc.
  • Make a national apology for misleading and lying to children, parents, and legislators about their intentions and causing insurance premiums to sky rocket.
  • Give a written response within five business days of receipt of these demands.

And heres the article

'The People': We want a written apology in five days or less!

Rockstar: Or?

'The People': I.. Um.. well gee, we're just a group of people. We can't actually do anything..

Anyway, ignorance isn't going to go away, it's far too easy to blame an outside source. Comments like 'cuff Rockstar, not the youth' are a damned good example of it; far be it for parents or teenagers to take responsibility for their actions. Their demands are kinda crafty though, they sound reasonable on paper but in reality Rockstart would lose millions trying to satisfy them.

And, let's be honest here, GTA does exactly what it says on the box. There was no misleading.

What I really hate is these people going on about 'Bully' encouraging bullying. I mean you'd think these 'concerned citizens' would actually research the game before crucifying it. It's about fighting bullies, you're a troubled teenager who is picked upon by bullies and teachers.

But let's all just take a look at the big picture here. Politicians tried to regulate rap music not too long ago. Dunno about you but I haven't seen any of that. :)

Oh, and thanks for the link Navanax, I've never seen these stats before. Pretty damn interesting. :D

Bully is a game just announced by rockstar that was in production for a while and released in october where u play a boy in a reform school taking on the bullies, teacher etc of the school winning the girl whats wrong with this?

Is itgoing to give the kids the power to stand up to bullies now or something?
I was ultimate ammused at when it said they shouldn't make games like this for kids....Rated M for Mature or T for teen or for adults i mean comon.

Its the parents fault, watch ur kid know what they are doing, them slacking off and not apying attentiont ot their kids and this guy is jsut eating it up, constantly taking advantage of parents not even paying attention to what their kids do,play, buy etc.

Sorry on most of the typos stick keyboard =/.

I sure hope Rockstar tells them to pound sand. What a load of horse ****.

1. Did they have any idea what the point of Bully is? Its not to bully.
2. Theyre re-releasing the game so it stays rated M.
3. Offer to exchange it for the editted version, long bureaucratic process included. Possible effects? Being as little Johnny knows how to search for the modification, he can surely find porn.
4. Theres more to car-jacking than pressing e, Rockstar is not liable for other peoples actions.
5. The parents were already warned when they read the ESRB rating... asuming they did so in the first place. Being as you need to violate the End User Agreement to access the said content, I dont see how Rockstar is responsible for this either.
6. Ive got a written response right here: **** off.

Bad press is good press to Rockstar.
Really makes you wonder if Jack thought this whole campaign through beforehand.

Don't you guys think all this press makes Rockstar appear more 'extreme' in the eyes of kids? And that's what attracts people to games. Bad press is good press to Rockstar.

They have no chance of actually stopping Rockstar from making any game they want. Nobody can stop anyone from making a game. They can encourage ESRB to rate any of Rockstar's games as AO, but ESRB won't do that because it would violate their own guidelines.

In other words.. Jack Thompson is an idiot who is manipulating the hyper-conservative "Christian" population for his own political career when he wants to run for higher office later. It's extremely unlikely that they'll actually accomplish anything.

its stupid to blame violence on media, nuff said.

the kids that are so retarded that they cant tell the difference between videogames and reality have to get the games from somewhere, (parents). If the kid is in that bad of a mental state WTF is the parent doing buying the game for them in the first place? the parenst should be thrown in jail, not rockstar. they dont force the parents to buy it for their underage children. the suggested age and description is on the box, all they have to do is read the damn thing (i am 22 and technically this doesnt directly effect me, but i would hate to have to walk into a adult entertainment store to buy a damned videogame >_>)

ive been playing videogames since i could walk, and ive never had the urge to go jump on my neighbors giant red (or green winged) turtle, run over a hooker, or throw a newspaper through a house window.

on a side note, violence was around long before videogames, i highly doubt bonnie and clyde went home and played contra or streets of rage between shootings >_>.

It's simple enough for them if they don't like the game to not buy or play it , simple as that. Why should they be held responsible for the actions of others ?. If that's the case , why don't they complain about the movies instead

"It's your fault my brother stole a car Rockstar"

sure in games , but in real life it's another story. Why do you think games in this genre are made ? so people can have a little taste of what it's like and play a unique game. You don't see everyone who plays GTA going out in real life picking up hookers or stealing cars (the ones that actually are mature) , but it's npt that dam hard to stay clear of it if they don't like it. Heck , what will they say next "DAM JOO GAMEFREAK , YOUR POKEMON GAMES TOOK AWAY MY CHILD'S SOCIAL LIFE". It could be a simlar argument , just proves that some people want everything to be exactly there way in a world of peace (but no matter how many games are made , it doesn't mean that games are the source of this as everything else out there like drinks and drugs can do the same).

but honestly, this is really rediculus. I mean, why not go and protest against every company that produced fps that involved any kind of human and demand that they take responsibilitie (sp?) for all the gunfights on the streets ...

man, this guy should be in a asylum instead on the streets protesting...really :p

gonna play some san andreas now mwahahhaha

At the loading screen of GTA Rock* have a warning saying they do not condone any of the actions in the game anyway

It's not their fault if little jimmy goes out gets a gun, buts a few caps and rapes a hooker.

It's his parents fault for not making it clear where games end and reality starts

That man is gonna get a gang of gamers after his ass so i'd watch it :)

He's a perfect example of having nothing to do but whine ;o

Games have a rating for a reason and it's a choice to buy or not.
I wonder why he only attacks video games instead of other things.
Like movies,music,etc....I mean haven't stupid kids done bad things that they saw in a movie? what's the difference? what about music? let me get a good example..RAP..Look at the lyrics and not just RAP other genres too. :)

The only thing I have to say is that man proves his idiocy even more.

It's people like this that just make me laugh. They're so insanely off-target that no matter how much you try to explain to them, they just complain more.

As time progresses, it seems we search for more and more things to blame our problems on. Whatever happened to a little something called responsibility? The games are rated mature in the first place. Why do parents buy them for their children, then claim they've been tricked by game developers and threaten to... wait, they can't really do anything aside from make whiney demands, but that's not the point.

They haven't been tricked by game developers, they were tricked by little Billy when he said the game was fine. Either that, or they plain don't give a damn about their kids. Either way, the responsibilty falls on them, not video game designers. Parents are called so because they're supposed to parent their children. Video games aren't delivered free to your doorstop.

The next thing these organizations are going to do is demand teenaged carjackers be released because they were only doing what they learned from a video game. If Timmy is unstable enough to go out and steal a car because he can get away with it on his Playstation, he needs to sit on a psychiatrist's couch, not his den couch playing GTA.

This thread should be used as an example next time theres a big yell at rockstar and showen to the dang protesters so they remember they just think about the role of a parent.

The next thing they will cry about is NFSU and other car games being the cause of street racing and speeding accidents (just a little guess , i'm amazed they haven't protested that as yet. They need to think to themselves for a miniute and stop being blind to all the pointers that are given :\).

They would have probably if gta wasnt out,I think they attack gta first and mostly because gta isnt just stealing cars, its all kinds of bad things in 1.In san andreas theres cursing, stealing, killing,Gang violence, drugs, prostitutes, street racing,ect....All in 1.It would be dumb if they protested 1 game for 1 thing and another game for another.GTA isnt the only game you can steal cars in,or shoot it,or have gangs in.Its just becuase rockstar was smart and put all of that in 1 knowing it would rake in a ****load of cash.
