It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.

This type of thing always happens, every 5 years there's some huge disaster that's going to wipe out mankind as we know it. Besides, everyone knows that in the year 2012 the Mayans will come back and save us.

Yeah basically. In space theres so many things that stop stuff like this and any real action we would ever have to take is a minor tap against any meteor or space doom to prevent it from coming anywhere near us.

Well, considering that there's absolutely nothing we can do to stop this, why bother worrying. Besides, by the sounds of it, you're more likely to die tomorrow than have this thing kill you in a couple decades. In fact, you're probably more likely to die choking on a hamster.

Wake me up when it's barreling down at us.

ITS GOING TO ATTACK!

Oh, wait, no it's not. It's going to miss.

BUT BE WORRIED ANYWAY!

But not too worried, cause we could probably knock it off course.

BUT WE MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO SAY IT'S GOING TO MISS WITH 100% ACCURACY BECAUSE WE HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL LONG AFTER THE MAYAN PYRAMIDS LAND ON EARTH AND ENSLAVE MANKIND ALONG WITH THE ANNUNAKI!

But in all probability, we can still probably nudge it away.

BE SCARED ANYWAY CAUSE NASA CAN'T DO **** UNLESS CONGRESS LET'S THEM!

That article was one hell of a rollercoaster ride.

Yeah it was, which is why I thought it'd be interesting to post.

First they say "This might be the end of mankind" and yet they say it should miss, but just to be sure it NASA should send some gizmo that sounds stupid like a hyperthermatic endoplasmic electrode ray gun oozie up there to nestle ever so snug into the thing send out w/e and "nudge" it off course. o_O wtf.

I'm no NASA specialist, but if it did get close to us, why wouldn't we hae the technology to do so? I thought we hade weapons that could destroy things the size of Wyoming o_O.

Though it doesn't seem that further concern is necessary as of now. Going by Deep Impact, I think news regarding a possible asteroid impact is supposed to end up another way.

Blow up asteroid, Earth gets hit thousands of times by broken fragments.

Bad idea.

That's why they'd rather force it away from Earth altogether.
