It doesn't matter what people think of the Budokai games, ESF trumps all.

I don't think the thread is called "is ESF overrated?"

I'll admit when people compare new coming DBZ games to Budokai 3, it really isn't saying as much as they usually imply.

But Budokai 3 represented a Dragonball Z fighting game that blew away it's predecessors. Ample amount of characters/transformations, long story mode, new fighting system, new moves and better looking graphics.

It's the gameplay that gets me. The gameplay was much faster/fun than budokai 1 and 2. You could actually dodge/teleport from individual hits/attacks, so you had to be on your toes when fighting. It actually felt like DBZ when you played against a good player/computer.

Budokai 3 is awesome because of various things:

- The awesome auras
- The varied attacks
- The good amount of interesting characters
- Ultimate attacks that blow half the planet away.
- In-place dodging
- Easily executable combos
- LOTS of unlockable stuff that actually does something useful

It's also not so great because of:

- The oh so annyoing Dragon Rush system
- Impossible to do and pretty useless Ultimates
- Capsule system for MOVES, all the moves and attacks should be basic for each character and not have to be applied by a equipping a certain capsule with a corresponding attack (better than B1 though, where they even had capsules for throwing).

And that just from the top of my head,
but still it's a pretty nice game.

Yeah, so it's not perfect, but no commercial DBZ game so far is perfect.

If you ask me, BT and Hyper Dimension are way more overrated than Budokai 3. At least B3 delivers most of the things what makes DBZ fun.

Yes, I can see how pressing L2 twice would be challenging :S

IMO B3 was the best so far, the gameplay was fast and had depth and strategy (maybe not to Virtua Fighter or Tekken levels, but still), lots of characters, each with their own fighting style and attack list (unlike Tenkaichi which used 'cloning'). On top of that, the whole thing oozed DBZ style, like the 'cut-scene'-esque finishers or giant explosions seen from space. It also had the best story mode to date, allowing you to fly around Earth/Dragon World.

It's connecting the attack that's hard. Ultimates are the easiest to dodge, and you'll only end up waisting all of your ki leaving you exhausted to be pounded on.

Though I have to agree with the Story mode thingy being pretty cool.
Which also makes me alot curios on how it will shape up to be in Tenkaichi 2.
