Installing Ubuntu on Bro's

His system specs:
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis
AMD (NVidea) Athlon 1.24 GHz & 512MB ram

His computer monitor resolution 1680X1050. Last time I installed Linux, there was no default wide screen resolutions and when I used guides to figure it out it'd always go to console as the desktop environment. I need help on that and I also need to know if Beryl can work with ATI cards... and how to setup it.

Odd.

I have 1680x1050 as well and it recognizes it by default. Try asking in ubuntu forums in my opinion.

And yes, Beryl can run on 9800 , even though it's pretty old. I got Beryl to run at GeForce MX 440 myself last year if i recall.

Beryl is outdated though, get compiz fusion instead.
