Importing Kingdom Hearts 2

I've been seriously considering getting an import copy of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, but the listing on ebay are telling me I need a Japanese ps2 to run it.
Is there any way, besides getting a mod chip, or a japanese ps2 to play import games?
