Hmm...I don't like the implications of this...no...I have a bad feeling...I say, stay away from that eon website. It could be that they spread this around to draw people to the site, and by going there you contract a virus. I also advise you all to STAY OFFLINE during the final minutes of this said countdown. More than likely this is just blown out of proportion, and is just something from Kutcher's Punkd. But better safe than sorry, know what I mean?

Makes you curious though regardless of it being a hoax or not. This site seems to be a widely discussed thing on the net right now. I'm not saying I believe in what could be possible, I'm just saying that there's no point assuming anything. Who knows, maybe it is a hoax and practically the whole internet fell for it.

The internet can't die. Even if a continent, say China, sunk, the only thing that would die would be Starcraft.

It's supposed to happen July 1st, not June 30th.

The site doesn't have any spyware or adware, it's just a count-down, a map of the world, and a bunch of links at the buttom on the page.

It would take a week to effectively "destroy" the internet, and that's only counting disabling the root DNS servers as "destroying" it. (it would take a week or two for the lack of updates to propogate worldwide, as each server in the chain usually caches for a few days)

Having no host->ip resolution would be pretty lame though. :p

Hmm...well, I logged on to my alternate crappy computer and checked it out. According to the IP adress, they're stationed in Texas; I forget what city. There's not much info anywhere, no trail to follow really.

But what I DID do was open up Microsoft Frontpage and use a little trick I know. I added a link to the site and the eon8 website opened up in Frontpage. I have total access to the site's HTML. I wasn't likely to see anything the way it was, so I looked at the HTML code.

The HTML is pretty basic, it just shows whats visible; what I was looking for was the javascript code. This is what I found.

<!--

function SymError()
{
return true;
}

window.onerror = SymError;

var SymRealWinOpen = window.open;

function SymWinOpen(url, name, attributes)
{
return (new Object());
}

window.open = SymWinOpen;

//-->
</script>

******** **********************>

var timerID = null;
var timerRunning = false;
var timestart=new Date();
var servertime=new Date('00:06:10 June 30, 2006');
var localdiff=Math.floor(timestart/1000)-Math.floor(servertime/1000);
function showtime() {
var timenow=new Date();
var launch=new Date('00:00:00 July 01, 2006');
diff = ((launch-timenow)/1000)+localdiff;
if(diff<=0 && !document.getElementById('deployed')) {
location.href='/';
/* REDIR UNTIL USER/SERVER SYNC */
}
else {
ldays=Math.floor(diff/24/60/60);
lhours=Math.floor((diff/60/60)-(ldays*24));
lmins=Math.floor((diff/60)-(ldays*24*60)-(lhours*60));
lsecs=Math.floor(((diff)-(ldays*24*60*60)-(lhours*60*60)-(lmins*60)));
if(ldays<0) { ldays=0; }
if(lhours<0) { lhours=0; }
if(lmins<0) { lmins=0; }
if(lsecs<0) { lsecs=0; }

lsecs = lsecs + '';
if (lsecs.length == 1)
{
lsecs = "0" + lsecs;
}

lmins = lmins+ '';
if (lmins.length == 1)
{
lmins = "0" + lmins;
}

lhours = lhours + '';
if (lhours.length == 1)
{
lhours = "0" + lhours;
}

document.getElementById('days').innerHTML=ldays+'d:';
document.getElementById('hours').innerHTML=lhours+'h:';
document.getElementById('minutes').innerHTML=lmins+'m:';
document.getElementById('seconds').innerHTML=lsecs+'s';
timenow=null;
timerID = setTimeout("showtime()",1000);
timerRunning = true;
}
}
var timerID = null;
var timerRunning = false;
function stopclock() {
if(timerRunning)
clearTimeout(timerID);
timerRunning = false;
}
function startclock() {
stopclock();
showtime();
}

From what I can tell, it looks like the timer stops June 30th and a NEW timer starts July 1st, obviously for one of their other projects, like Project X21-B .

Its odd. I'm both worried and a bit excited to see what this turns out to be.

PS: The post editor wiped out some of the coding tags in the code

And real hackers don't brag.

AcidRawMan is similar to Acid Burn from the movie Hackers... can you say fanboy with too much time on his hands?

Some sources say it's a count-down to a new game console called "The Phantom".

Edit

I just thought of something, we should make it seem like it's the count-down to ESF 1.3, that way people can stop asking when it will be released.

Either that or we can create a count-down site that resets every week.
