How to start Dedicated server?

Hey guys,


all the servers i go in are so laggy

My net connection is strong 20MB/s
and PC is strong to 4GHZ quad triple SLi etc..


I want to make a lagless fast ECX server..

can someone help me? =)

we can all play together here

Download HLDS Update Tool from Steam website.
Install it.
Download "valve" content with it.
Install ESF content into HLDS.
Install ECX content into ESF.
Launch the HLESFDS with hlds.exe.

YES,

i've managed to make a dedicated folder inside my Steamname

now i need to copy the ESF folder into Valve directory right>?

Hmm weird..


i started the server trough the Steam's own Dedicated server program..
but it just doesnt work =S

wont show up @ list..
even tho it says its running and no players joined etc

When i run trough the bat file i first got error..
couldnt find steam.dll

so i copied the steam.dll file to the folder
and now i get WAD error or something about gfx

HLDS does have nothing to do with Steam!

Install HLDS Update Tool to let's say C:\HLServer folder.
Open command prompt (Start > Run), type "cmd" and hit OK. Then download the content, etc.

but what dir should i choose?

All you have to do is download it in a separated directory and then copy the files to your esf root folder.

Use exactly as I wrote:

-dir .

Can't you see the dot?

It will automatically asign the folder of where the HldsUpdateTool.exe is.

it says unable to initialize steam..
when running my HLDS with valve content installed @ C:\esfserver

Create a file named steam_appid.txt in "esf" folder and write number 70 in it.
