So i was teaching my mom how to play DOA3 the other day, and this subject was brought upon me. She kept asking me questions about why do most video games i play, seem to have these ludicrous exaggeration of women's bodies. And from then on we were on the subject of femme fatales. She even wonders sometimes why im not turned off by it like herself. In my opinion, i think it's entirely impossible to have a femme fatale-- leading character without making her incredibly disproportionate and unrealistic. It would probally be kinda boring too.

But I do kinda agree with her, i mean ya know, i do think it's kinda rediculous when i see a 20 year old with a DD bra size just happens to be a demon fighter or something though. But i guess movies, TV, porn, anime and games all lead to a distorted view of women in some way or another right ? So i still welcome the femme fatale's of gaming.

But anyway, how do you guys and/or gals here feel about it? Do you think It's a overdone concept as far as female character's go ? Does it even bother you or do you even feel it's acceptable, should they start taking a much more realistic approach with women characters and ect.

I blame the Japanese. And the Americans. And the English. And anyone with male genitalia. But mostly the Japanese.

I love them, they're very interesting, and people (like me) like interesting characters. Kasumi with a great body, flawless skin, fantastic rack, silky hair and revealing outfit replete with katana is a lot more interesting than 'Maude Smith, 40-year old housewife in a frock'; like you said, boring.

However, femme fatales are still characters. Just because they look good doesn't mean they can get away with shallow or even cliché characters. They need character attributes just like anyone else. In fact, more so if anything. An interesting-to-look at character needs to have a fitting personality.

Another aspect of the creature known as the femme fatale is the idea of power, the dominatrix complex if you will. Everyone's attracted to power. So yes, Femme Fatales are an overdone, overused concept, but they still work, they probably will this time next century too.

This thread is made of victory and win.

And does she complain when games have rediculously handsome and muscular men starring?

Games ARE mostly targeted to adolescent boys / young men. Therefore Sexy Women FTW

Lmao, sad but true

Obviously, the male population dominates the female population when it comes to the video game audience. A good percent of us are so easily sucked in by sex appeal it's almost scary (DoA Beach Volley Ball anyone?). In a fighting game, a guy is usually going to play as someone like Ryu. In his mind, if he played as/fights against a female character will little to no sex appeal, then it's just an less interesting, unappealing, and usually weaker "male" character. So they need to either make the girl extremely cute or sexy to make the player want to use her.

The same thing applies to male characters sometimes. They are usually muscular or athletic looking, the idea of a "hero". The female character will usually signify beauty by modern standards. When they bust out skimpy outfits barely holding the Double D's inside them, then that's just fan service to the majority of the gaming audience, which are males :p

Regardless of the obvious explanation Fire Phoenix gives, I think it is really stupid for people to draw this line across all female game characters. There are your Lara Crofts and your DOA skanks and your Bloodraynes, all of which are just lame excuses for T&A to sell games. But there are innumerable others which are much more within reason that people seem to lump in. None of the Final Fantasy girls was horribly buxom or disproportionate; Jaina Proudmoore's rack probably isn't even animated in Warcraft III; Nova in Starcraft Ghost might be hot but she is still NORMAL looking, at least within reason; Ada Wong in RE4 looks pretty normal outside of the obvious BS of wearing a geisha porn outfit during spy duty.

There is a fine line between poorly thought out BS tacked onto hollow characters for eye candy and sales' sake (DOA Beach Volleyball) and an actual viable female character. Are there characters that fit both ends of the spectrum? Of course, I'm sure there are.

But regardless, I am never offended that they put these super sexy skanks into our games.

I'm offended that I'm part of a group desperately horny and stupid enough to buy craptacular products like DOA Beach Volleyball.
