How are the graphics of 1.3 even possible?

Wouldn't everything run on the half-life 1 engine look similar to the graphics of half-life 1?? I'm not doubting the new look, I'm just wondering how it's even possible.

It wouldn't have been possible 10 years ago, when Half-Life has been released. But now it's possible to hack this engine and upgrade it.

They're possible because Valve did a excellent job on allowing mods to alter pretty much everything, even by bruting.

Pretty much Shaders and 3rd party programs.

Shaders can be coded into anything that has a good rendering engine, even if its not in the orignal system/sub system/engine. and these "shaders" can be used to increase graphics/looks by a large amount.

3rd party stuff,applications can also be "hacked/forced/bruted" into the engine. Its just a matter of getting these 3rd party programs to "communicate" properly with the engine in the way that you want it to.

They simply couldn't make it look this good couse they didn't have the proper tools to do it
If they had those tools, they would have done the same thing 10 years ago
