With all do respect, but how can you fail American High School.. Isn't the American educationsystem like a walk on the park compared to the rest of the world? :/

Heh, from my experience, things are getting dumbed down here in the uk too, everything's based on coursework these days, which isnt exactly hard, just make sure you write what the teacher tells you and you'll pass. I hate coursework (cuz i cud never be arsed with all the homework), I always prefered exams, they're so much easier and actually test you on your knowledge rather than see how well you can recite what you're told.

My advice would be, what do you want to do with your life? if you think that a GED is acceptable then go for it, if its too risky then try to get your high school diploma, it'll be better in the long term. I dont think schools let children specialise enough, they dont trust that children have any kind of sense of direction in their lives, me and all my closest friends ive known all my life all still excell in the same area's we did when we were 8 or even younger, fact is you learn much better with subjects you want to learn. Aside from the basics - language maths and science, there's not much point cramming a load of useless **** in young people's brains, you can bet they wont remember hardly any of that crap a few years after, and almost definately when school has finished.

G.E.D. = Grade Equivalent Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.

The G.E.D. is a test to determine if your education is equivalent to that of a 12th grade education. It's basically the same thing as graduating from high school, but without the black gown and the graduation ceremony.

You should be fine with the G.E.D.

Go for the GED if you do plan to go to ITT Tech..

basically high school is a stepping stone to get into college.. when in college is where you really have to do your best because that will be your future career, the job you will do for the REST OF YOUR LIFE

the better you do in high school, the better your chances to get into a really good college.. but if you plan to go to ITT Tech, if you don't want to wait for the last year of high school, then just get the GED to speed things up.

if you get your diploma and go itt tech it would basically be the same thing as if you get your GED.. but if you were planning to go to a university like UCLA then a high school diploma would be your way to go

I thought that GED = General Education Degree, but y'all say otherwise.

And No offence Diamond Princess, but you only have 1 year left, it'd be pointless to drop out in your Senior year, since you are so close to graduation.

I know how you feel, i want to drop my ass out of highschool, but the only thing thats keeping me going is how smart I am. Im too smart to drop out, and i need this if i plan on getting my PhD in Meteorology.

So really think about what i said before you go off and do it. That GED program might sound good right now, but you'll be thinking otherwise later on in your life when you have a ****ty salary and no benifits.

I can't seem to wrap my head around why you'd want to quit after three years. You're 75% of the way done, and senior year is without question the easiest year.

I'd say stick it out for another year just for that reason. Plus, being in High School develops your social engineering skills and makes you better able to fit into society. Ever met a home schooled kid who's never been to a normal school? They're messed up. They can't function properly in society.

On that same note, school is a great place to meet people. Get yourself a boyfriend/girlfriend for the last year and it'll go by even faster.

Do you feel that an High School Diploma is superior to an G.E.D ? If two students actually got each one of these and were both dedicated to getting an job, would an High School Graduate be more likely to score an job first ? Do you think that High School graduates will overall, be more successful then G.E.D. students with higher paying jobs ? Are jobs truely more lenient in reference to students who obtained their High School Diploma's, then G.E.D. obtainers ?

I want to see some opinions on the matter, it would be rather helpful as well in an decision of mine.

GED is for people who cant complete highschool. who cant maintain D's, or are too lazy to go to class. or perhaps some1 has to work and doesnt have time for school. regaurdless..... get your diploma.....

GED = highschool dropout as far as employers are concerned.

That was uncalled for.

Besides, if our schools are so bad, how come almost everyone wants to go to an American college? =/

not necessarily.. my friend was in 10th grade when he took the GED and passed it, and he started off college REALLY early.. there's no reason to attatch such a negative stereotype to something you barely have any experience or real knowledge on how they work

that has nothign to do with the topic =o and you can't say which is better since you probably dont have experience or know exactly how the american system of education works

What does that have to do with anything? Most people I know that went with a G.E.D. had good grades, they just didn't want to attend school anymore. One guy I used to work with went with a G.E.D. and had perfect grades, yet he didn't want to go to school anymore.

About the US having low standards of education - It just depends on what schools you go to and it's more about the individual's willingness to learn in my opinion.

well if your friends are so intelligent why dont they just finish high school?

and there arent jobs galore here. so highschool diploma > GED. diploma = job. job = money. ged = working at a pig plant. making crap wages and straining your self.

Intelligence alone won't help you make it through High School. Besides, what are you refering to when you say "here"?

Stick it out for one more year. Believe me, you aren't the only person in the world who hated high school. Hell, I hated the concept of schooling all together until I got to university, and now I love it.

Stick it out, it's worth it for your future. Unless your future career plan involves a long and steady McDonald's run, get the high school diploma.
