I am currently downloading ESF and i am wondering if you need to have a steam account to play it as i tried Steam-Down earlier to use all the games and i think my IP was banned so i do not know if i have one.

To answer bluntly, you need regular steam. Steam-Down is kind of an Illigal thing, considering it gives you half life source and what not.

Bottom line is you NEED steam.
