If the game just 'shuts down' without any error, it could possibly be a video/graphics problem. Make sure you're running on the OpenGL video mode (most preferred) and are also on a stable resolution. Also helps if you're running the latest version of ESF, installed using the proper installer (to ensure that no files are missing).
