<s>Fine.</s>
Let's try this with ATi: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16813131584
Processor:Athlon64 FX57 2.8GHz 1000FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 (AMD64
Get an X2 4800+. $200 cheaper, better performance in multi-tasked programs.
Ram (x2):Kingston [KVR400X64C3A/512] 512MB DDR400
(I have another gig to put in on top of that)
Get 2x 1GB Sticks, not 4x 512MB Sticks. I could get into the reasons as to why, but I'm just too lazy right now. Just take my word for it.

Floppy: Alps [FD1.44-BK]
Hehe, fine.

DvD Drive : Pioneer [DVR-110D BK] DVR-110D DVD-/+RW 16X BK
Fine.

HD: Seagate [ST3160812AS] Barracuda 160G SATA-II 8M

Fine.

Videocard: nVidia GeForce 7800GT Dual-GPU 512MB DDR3 PCI-Express x16 w/ Dual-DVI / HDTV-Out
Get an X1900XTX.

Sound Card : Audigy 2 ZS Gamer (Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Gamer edition 7.1 channel 24bit (retail))
I'd go for a X-FI if you have headphones.

Yeah dude, listen to smith. I just have one problem with the video card. The 7800GT is less expensive than the X1900XTX. I'd try to save some money, you can still play probalby all computer games avaliable with that card, just wouldn't be as powerful as the 1900XTX.

And you shouldn't notice a difference between the two during gameplay, right?

He wants the Dual 7800GT, not the single 7800GT.

Depends on how you look at it. For the most part yes, especially if you plan on keeping it for a while.

whats the big deal on sli anyways?
It can offer a pretty nice performance boost when you've run into scenes that are limited mainly by the GPU and not CPU/RAM.

SLI gives you a performance boost by connecting 2 PCIe video cards with an SLI Bridge connector. You can get boosts of 80% more performance over having one video card of the same type.

Only in scenes where the GPU is the limit. If not, you could actually have lesser performance compared to only 1 GPU. ~Smith|

Thanks for making me look like an ass Smith. [Joke]

Wait, why am I suggesting an SLI board with an ATi card? Last time I checked, crossfire needed it's own southbridge. Let's see...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131584

That would be good if you ever decide to plop in another X1900XTX card.

And no, you don't need a new motherboard, just getting an SLI motherboard with the latest ATi card isn't very smart.

Well Smith, what would you suggest for just one ATI video card?
Any decent motherboard with one PCI-E 16x slot.

My Albatron PX915P4C PRO motherboard I bought works great with my ATI Radeon X300SE with a 64bit bus and 128mb of shared ram. :p

X1900XTX/XT is pretty good. It has 16 pipelines (nvidia have more), but the smart thing here is it has 3 pixel shaders per pipeline (3 x 16 = 48 pixel shaders). Plus avivo is also a nice little bonus on the X1000 series of cards too =).

Nvidia have the Geforce 7900 cards coming out at cebit on march 9th (same day as my birthday too =P). 7900GT will feature 24 pipes & will be clocked at 450/1320 & 7900GTX will feature 32 pipes 650/1600 (accordingly to the inquirer). These cards will replace The 7800 series of cards, and they are cheaper for nvidia to produce because the die size is now 90nm compared to 110nm on the 7800 cards. Nvidia should hopefully have stock the day the cards launch & it shouldn't hopefully be a paper launch.

Personally though, with vista and direct x 10 not so far away, I would get a midrange card for now (such as a 6800gs) & think about buyying a better card when vista comes out.

The 7900GTX will have only 24 pixel pipelines, not pipes ;), afaik from the latest info. ~Smith|
