I'm looking for a hard drive, for my P4, 3 Ghz, 2GB RAM Desktop. The current one is very old, sounds like a turbine and is very slow when it actually makes it to windows "rare situation". It's a Barracuda hard drive and it's not even SATA.

I've checked the motherboard and it has SATA 2 entries. So can anyone give me some ideas about SATA2 hard disks brands that are worth buying? This one lasted me very few years. The desktop will be basically to play and store stuff I don't need on my laptop, so doesn't have to be top notch.

I'm asking this because I dig 0.00001% about hard disk drives... :-/

From 150 to 250 GB would be more than enough. Price range between 30~50€. I need a quiet one because the current one gives me a headache.

I've been checking the cheapest stores here in my country. Tell me what you think of these please.

Seagate HDD 160GB 7200RPM Sata2 for 42€
SAMSUNG - 250GB SATA II 3Gb/s NCQ HDD - 7200rpm: 16MB Cache for 44€

I presume Seagate is a lot better in terms of viability...?

Why don't you order it online? Should be much cheaper then.

Agreed. And many companies support the "Pay uppon delivery" system.

I'm checking some UK stores, the prices are very near €44,90. That seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS, 500GB for £34.95 = 42€, but the traveling and taxing would probably boost it to 50~55€. I'm still searching for better. Thanks for your help so far guys.

It's a pity that I cant find any with 250GB 16MB cache. Every single one that has 250GB has 8MB cache, well it makes sense, double cache to double memory capacity.
