Hey, i bought half life today and entered the code into steam so i could install esf. esf wont install when i run the exe. it detects the directory but then it won't let me click next. do i need to just have steam installed for some random reason and install from disc? HELP PLZ.

You just need to start up Half life once then after that you can press next happened to me too 
okay i did that but now when i run it i can pick up servers in steam but if i start the game and search no dice. also if i connect to a server and then start the game from there it disconnects and i cant pick anything up again. i also tried thins on normal half life and it did the same. re-installing doesn't work. am i missing a patch or something?

Impossible to be missing a patch. STEAM automatically updatess Half Life as soon as a new version is out. So its impossible to have an outdated HL version.
When it disconnects. Open the console and check for errors.
