Gonna hit the Steam forums after this, but since I know the ESForums are a big source of help, I'll post here first.

Alright, my HL2 issue:

The game has worked amazingly well up until today. I load up Steam/HL2, the Valve movie shows, the main Loading screen appears. Up until there everything is fine. When the game seems to have finished loading, however, it just closes up to the desktop. No error messsage, no error screen, nothing showing that something bad happened; it just closes to the desktop.

I tried reinstalling HL2 and Steam. Unlocking the game files and everything went smooth, but the same problem occured. After looking in the Steam folder I found it didnt remove all files (even after a reboot) - all my save files and screenshots were there. Im assuming it didnt remove any configurations I had in the game either since it remember my CDkey and all, although that might be stored on the Steam servers. I thought to myself, "alright, I'll just uninstall again, go to the steam folder and clean up anything that was left over." It seemed like a good idea, but when I go to start->valve->steam->uninstall, or start->valve->half life 2->uninstall it doesnt seem to find the uninstall exe. I tried looking in the folder myself, and it was nowhere to be found. I would just delete all the folders under Valve, but Im afraid it might cause problems. Since it has worked fine up until today I think it might have something to do with my configs, since I liked messing around with them a bit. I did have a backup but I erased it after everything worked fine. I applied the new configs this weekend and everything worked fine up until tonight.

Anyway, anyone here who has any idea what could be the problem, please help. I'd like to try and obtain a default config to replace with mine and see if it works, so if anyone could copy and paste their [default]config here or PM it to me, it would be a great help and much appreciated.

**Seems unimportant, but what the hell - heres my system specs:
Pentium 4, 3.2 Ghz
1 Gig DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Radeon X800 XT, 256mb (DirectX 9.0b) (Catalyst 4.12 beta drivers)
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Off to hit the Steam forums now.

nevermind, nuked VALVe out of my computer and reinstalled... everythings working. Thanks for the attempt though Fatal, I appreciate it.

Update
The problem started up again, and this time Ive found what causes it: setting the heapsize to anything over 300000 causes it to crash like that. Im not sure why, everything was working fine before. It just all started yesterday. It should work fine, I have 1 gig of RAM, so Im not sure why this happens to me. Someone shed some light on this problem, I want to have half of my RAM available for this game.
