Yeah it was Gai and it was from episode 85 around the 15:50 in the timeline... I just happened have that episode on my computer...
I just found a neat Neon Genesis Evangelion live action trailer... fake of course, but its nicely done, with the expection of crappy CG and photoshopped beard...
