A friend of mine taught me the basics =) I'm pretty much figuring it out as I go that's why it took a while to make that.

Nice... Really good for a first model  only 2 crits.

1) You wasted some polies there. I guess it doesn't matter when you're working on a HL2 mod, but if you wanna make a model for HL1 or almost any other "old" game, you have to save as much as you can because there is a limit for how much polies the engine can show at a time.
2) I don't know if you know what polyflow means but that's what you're missing... ask your friend if he knows.

What program are you using?

Nice model man, I would have suggested straying away from Milkshape, but it looks like you have a good handel on it.

The belt straps are WAY WAY WAY WAY too small.

Maybe you should post a wireframe shot, so the models structure can be commented on. The way it's looking now in these flat shots it doesn't look like it's built too well.

**Update**

Based on your critics:

-Made the belt straps longer
-Fixed up his pants
-Gave him a butt

Wow nice for a first model.

The pants are modeled in quads, and the shirt in tris.. Just curious as to why this is...

Polyflow is a bit messy at the torso, much better at the pants.

Heres a lame drawover by meh:
