I don't think the activity plugin has to go. If I remove that, the space below the avatar will get spammed with plain old text. Which I find, boring.

You can use it for example to count who has won and how many, votes, etc. You can use tables for a lot of reasons. By the way, this is not exactly a plugin but more like a BB tag code.

Why, it's only a BB code. Any anyone can use them if they wish. Besides, tables are very useful.

The new box serves no purpose other than wasting space, especially for people with smaller screens.

Not sure if I wish to get rid of the new announcement system. I could how ever remove the image in it though.

This makes it easier to add forum news without using the original announcement system. This plugin makes it easier for people to read them faster.
