Hey guys, I'm having a problem with Firefox where it clears all of my private data (logs me out of forums/webites) whenever I close it. Problem is, I have no idea why. I don't have "Clear private data when Firefox closes" selected, so that's not the problem. I can't think of anything else, so perhaps one of you guys knows what's up?

Do you use CCleaner? If you do you might have to uncheck a few things in there too.

If not, I would suggest completely removing and re-installing FireFox, along with deleting cookies and whanot with CCleaner in between processes.

In FireFox, what about: Tools -> Options -> Privacy:

Is FireFox will set to:

1), Remember History
2), Never remember history
3), Use custom settings for history

No, I don't use CCleaner. I've never even heard of it until now.

I'd rather reinstall Firefox as a last resort

*scratches*, no idea actually. Have you tried logging in a different FireFox profile?

Launch FireFox.exe with the -profilemanager command line.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file that stores the cookies (in Firefox 3: cookies.sqlite, in Firefox 2: cookies.txt).
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.txt (may not be there) in the Profile Folder in case there is problem with the file that stores the cookies.

Edit: Wait, i went to the "tools/options/privacy" tab and checked the box marked "Always clear my private data when firefox closes" and the "Ask me before clearing private data" options.

I had the same problem a bit back. It'd save my information so long as I didn't close the browser, but if I did close it all the private data was gone. I honestly have no clue how I fixed it, other than a firefox upgrade or something along those lines, but that was a few months back and you may be updated all the way anyway.

Don't you have to turn cookies on to save the data that remembers your passwords and such? Or am I confusing it with something else now?

This is a common issue with firefox. I'd say... try the newest RC for Firefox 3. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html Alternatively you can try out Chrome for a spin, though I think it uses quite a few pieces of IE8 and is capable of contracting some of the same bugs. Chrome has never lost its data for me, while firefox has been losing forum data for months, rather inconsistently as well... Some websites are fine, some aren't. Cleaning the cash didn't fix it, though I recently used a reg cleaner (and several other tools) in attempt to kill a trojan and managed to fix it.
