That's just another example of how America tries to raise their kids with a television. It kinda pisses me off that they try to infringe on people's creativity, but I guess all the mature shows will go to like, HBO or something.

Just another example of a third party doing what they believe is in the best interests of society. When the truth is, they don't have a ****ing clue what society wants. So are they gonna start censoring shows like Dragonball Z? People die, and even get incinerated in that show, so where do you draw the line.

I hate people.

Congress is just reacting to the public outcry. This is really MTV's fault for causing such a fuss at the superbowl. If MTV (Or Janet Jackson) hadn't abused their privaleges congress wouldn't be taking them away. I don't think it's right, but I don't think the superbowl was either.

They already censor DBZ. They change the bad language, change all references of "Beer" to "Root Beer," and cut out a lot of violence (dealing with blood, usually.)

But it wasn't really the FCC who did that, it was Funimation, because they marketted anime towards small children, and they didn't want children to see that.

The FCC does have guidelines on what can be shown at what time, on what kind of network, though.

Having "Adult Swim" is a big step towards anime being fully uncensored on Cartoon Network, so.. *shrug*

Like Halorin said, if all the good shows go to HBO and the such, at least we won't have to worry about Commercials, will we? :D

OMFG I JUST STARTED BUILDING IT NOW ALL I NEED IS POINTY EARZZ!!!ONE!11 *GRABS SCIZORZ*

If the FCC ends up making everything all goody, goody... then i'm sure people will get less ratings. If they end up putting all the "good" stuff on HBO, then that's cool and all, but still, some people only have basic cable. So that's not really fair. :S

Well we just need to look at it this way, has the FCC stopped Eminem? :laff:

The FCC is just a bunch of tightwads and soccor mom's complaining for two hours in a board meeting. They "think" they can control and censor everything possible.

The reality is, freedom of speech makes them look like a bunch of idiots.

It's hilarious to see you guys babbling on about how evil and repressive the FCC is.

The FCC has regulations that must be followed. Certain words can't be said on the air.

Do you think the FCC is "censoring" the content of shows? What do you WANT?

Do you want to see just PORN on Fox? There's already some racy stuff shown every DAY on the main networks. God, people can be such sheep when it comes to blaming things.

The FCC has VERY little control over the content of shows, except when it comes to using extremely offensive language and showing full nudity, and most of the time it isn't the -FCC- who limits shows, it's the network.

Do you think the FCC put the swear-filter in this Forum? No, they didn't. Because people (namely, the ones not complaining about the FCC) have put it in place so we don't have to listen to people mindlessly spout off obsecenities.

Have you ever heard of a director or producer saying "Oh, that does it! I quit this business. The FCC is censoring my work! I can't work under these conditions. Goodbye!"

I suggest you look at who runs the FCC, and you can easily tell that it's not a bunch of "Soccer Moms." The Federal Communications Comission isn't a PTA meeting.

And BESIDES, the news about "more strict fines," today is CONGRESS trying to pass laws which increase fines levied by the FCC for those who BREAK THE REGULATIONS. Do you see FCC campaigns to censor people? To increase fines? No, it's YOUR hyperactive senators and congressman.

If you have a problem with what they're doing, write a letter to your congressman/senator, don't piss and moan on a video game forum, jesus!

You should also note that the "RIAA" is not a government organization and is in no way affiliated with the FCC!

You are right about them doing some things right... but if they had it there way, shows like teletubbies and barney and friends would be on 24/7, reality shows would probably be canceled due to the cussing and adult situations(not that i care), anime would be outlawed and we'd grow up thinking like a bunch of tree hugging hippies.

The sad thing is... television IS raising kids these days.

iam surprised noone has mentioned howard stern, currently hes the FCC's biggest target, they have already fined him for airing "indecent" material, but this the ****ed up part, oprah winfrey who airs during the daytime when children are home recently aired something about salad tossing, but she doesnt get fined at all what so ever, wtf is with that, they fine howard stern which IMO his show isnt all that indecent, ive been a stern listener for years and i tottally admire his opinion on important issues like politics and what not, anyways its just basically the US government taking our freedoms away and controlling what we listen to and hear, stern really was fined because he was speaking out agianst president bush on his radio show, and since we all know the FCC is ran by Colin Powel's son, we know our president has some ties and influence in the FCC, what we should do is vote bush out of office, he has done too much damage already, and now our freedom to speak out is being taken away, enough is enough we gotta take this guy outta office immediatley, by the way heres the transcripts of opah's episode, as well as howard stern's episode which was apparently the reason for him being fined, read both and tell me that oprah shouldnt be fined or not by the FCC,

Oprah

Howard

the people of the howard stern show has posted some really kool articles that are on the internet for you guys to read, its all about the FCC, Bush, and everything going wrong in this issue, www.howardstern.com, some computers with a firewall may have this webpage blocked, which i guess is another bull**** thing that the government has arranged, since so many negative articles about the FCC and Bush are linked on that page

I totally agree with all of you. It is just idiotic if any government tries to limit people in their watching TV. I don''t live in the US but I can see a lot of stuff that happened in the US is now also happening in Holland (where I live), there is a constant discussion about Values & Norms (don't know for sure if it is the correct word) and so about violence on TV, I am happy that there is not yetr an act about violence on TV and Radio but I don't think it will be this way for ever. In Holland you can say everything you want on TV, which I admire because that is the way it should be, but I can also see MTV (Netherlands version) and we have other music channels to. So when you see a music video with a bad word in it, on MTV it will always be censored while on TMF (the other channel) it will not be censored per definition (sometimes it is).

In my opionion the government should totally leave TV and Radio alone except for the public channels financed by the government. I think it is freedom of speech, one of the most important constitutional laws we have, which is cut when the government says what can an can't be shown on TV.

So I vote: kick bush out of the office and let them have another look at the constitution at hte part which says free speech!!!

Yeah, I DO wanna see only porn on FOX, what about it? :p

FCC might not be affiliated with the RIAA, but might as well.

Yeah, they do some things right for the sake of children, but they shouldn't use their power to **** things up. :S

hmmm im not sure what happens in america with tv companies, but in the uk, any channel is either BBC (payed by the people, through government), or it is advertising, which means it is a private channel, they cannot let swearing or nudity come on untill the watershed (which is about 9pm i think), In many ways the UK censoring is not as bad as in the USA, the uk, it can show full nudity, but you cant see an errection, or women with their legs spread, and no hardcore sex :p. Personally i think that showing anythin after the watershed (appart from the obvious) should be uncensored.

We've been doing about this in Psychology (media influences) and we found out, the way things get censored at the BBC, is one guy sits in a room, looks though each program and he edits the bad bits out, meaning it is totally up to his judgement :S.

Total censorship is very Nanny state, and insulting to the viewer, as it tells you what you are fit enough to watch. No censorship isnt pleasant, as i have noticed (in the uk anyway) many children have a full abusive vocabulary, not that they learned it of tv, parents are much to blame as well, but the media and fashion at this point in time finds swearing socially acceptable.

Im not sure about censorship, i almost stand on both sides, one of my main principles is freedom of speach and clearly censorship is an infringement on this freedom, but on the other hand, there are some bad effects from no censorship. The point is, shouldnt the parents be in control of what their children watch, and if you dont like something on TV, there's other channels, so whats the problem? If you dont like the language, it doesnt mean you are right in making it illegal for other people to hear it, thats totally assuming you know whats best for them, and its degrading to people judgement. In a land of liberty and freedom, people, in their own house, in front of their own TV, should decide what is suitable for them and their children to watch. It isnt the place of sum guy who thinks he knows much better than you. We have the technology these days to make sure children cant watch certain shows or channels, and shouldnt this be implemented so the family can decide what they can watch (which is democrating and localised) rather than being told, because this would solve the problem completely, people who wanted censored TV for whatever reason, and people who wish to be able to watch it without it being censored could chose to do so.

Guys I hate to intrude on your little fantasy world here, but kids DO act out what they see on TV. Remember the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers? I used to see the neighborhood kids play that all the time, they would always act out thier cheezy transform sequence. Imainge if there was swearing in that:

"Let's ****in' morph mother****ers!"

The FCC is there for a reason, to help our nation not become a bunch of swear-spouting porn-freak-shut-in idiots. Maybe they are taking it a bit too far over one tit at the Superbowl, but they have a job to do, and they are doing it.

That is such a load of crap dude, The FCC 's agenda is to censor ALL media according to Christian values, what there basically doing is controlling our freedom of speech through the media, our freedom of speech is supposed to be guarenteed to us by the constitution, I believe the FCC acting in this case like a crazed Taliban mullah, deciding for me what shall deemed decent or not by a manner of decree. I prefer the freedom to make up my own mind what is offensive or not. And as always, if i don't like it, I can always............CHANGE THE ****ING CHANNEL!!!!
