Hi there, new user, just got halflife 1 and ESF (legitimately!!) and was looking forward to playing this.

However, once following the install guide, I went to launch a LAN game, all was going well, it was loadisng the server, then it crashed, saying this:

Cache_TryAlloc:1095824 is greater than free hunk.

What the heck is this? I have downloaded and installed both ESF 1.2.3 and ECX RC2.

Has this happened before, and if so, whats the remedy?

Cheers,

Dee.

The remedy is ferring up RAM. The game cant load all the characters so it crashes.

Appoligies, my ignorance got the better of me.

After a thorough search of your forum help, I found out than inorder to run this game, you need to NOT have it running in software mode.

I changed it to the next one down, and all is good.

Any more tips to help maximise what I get outta this AWESOME mod?

Run it on Open GL, not Software or Direct3D.

Also, more RAM cant hurt if youre playing ECX.

The thing about software is that its all generated with your processor and not with using the graphics card. So that uses up a lot of resources meaning the game runs out of resources required to load the characetrs, cause all are spent o generating the graphics using nothing else than your processor.
