Want to get banned?
Here is a list of some sure fire ways of getting yourself banned from the ESF forums.
- Spamming. This includes but is not limited to, posting off-topic, posting complete jibberish, and asking for future releases.
- Abuse of other forum users. This includes but is not limited to, private message spam, flaming, racism, sexism, and impersonations.
- Backtalking a moderator. If a moderator has warned you, PM an admin if you wish to dispute the warning. Do NOT dispute the warning in public.
- Material not appropriate for a public forum. This includes but is not limited to, pornographic material, hentai, and warez.
- Avoiding the swear filter is not recommended. It is there for a reason.

We do not provide support for ESF addons made by our community since we didn't made them. So don't ask for any help about them here but use their forums on their website.

What do I need to play ESF v1.2.3?
You need Steam, and a valid copy of Half-Life 1.
I have Half-Life version 1.1.1.0 and ESF will not work right, or at all!
That's because you aren't using Steam.
I hate Steam, I want to play without it!
You can't. ESF requires Steam to play online.
I want to play offline! Can I do that without Steam?
No.
I need a valid Half-Life 1 CD-Key. Where can I get one?
You need to buy the game at a store, or online using Steam.
I have a Condition-Zero or Counter-Strike CD-Key, will ESF work?
A Condition-Zero or Counter-Strike CD-Key will not work. You need to get a valid copy of Half-Life 1.
I have all the right requirements to play ESF, but the install button is greyed out!
You need to have run Half-Life at least once before you try to install ESF. To do this simply start a single player mission. You may exit the game once it has loaded up. After you have done this, you should install ESF.
I get this error when I try to join a game! Your dll. [cl_dlls\client.dll] differs from the server's
Make sure you are using the latest patched version of ESF. The current version is 1.2.3.
I get this error when I try to join a game! LAN Servers are restricted to class C.
The server you are attempting to connect to is a LAN server. You cannot connect to it.
I get some error about missing meleesounds when I try to join a game!
Create a new folder called "events" in your ESF directory. Then create a blank text-file in notepad and save it as "meleesounds.sc". Make sure the file extension is .sc and not .sc.txt.
I get an error about missing Namek.wad or Guru.wad when I try to play older maps!

I can't find any Senzu beans! Where are the Senzu beans?
They are located on only a few maps, and are well hidden. If you would like to find out where, you may do so by trial and error, or ask someone in-game and hope they are willing to help you.

I can't find the dragon balls!
The dragon balls only appear on certain maps, and only under the correct game setting (CTDB mode).
How do I call / use the dragon?
To call the dragon in-game, you first must collect all 7 dragonballs to one location and when they start glowing, point at them from closeby and press your USE key (which is b by default). Once you have called the dragon, use the mouse to click on one of the 3 options. [Please note that CTDB (Capture The Dragon Balls) mode is still in it's experimental stages in this mod. It will be perfected after the team has finished working on other aspects of the game. Also, to play in the CTDB mode, the host of the server must have the server running with the CTDB mode option in *Create Game > Advanced*.]
What do the wishes do?
Strength gives you more PL, Immortality makes you invincible for a certain period of time, and Friendship increases your wish points in the score for games played on the basis of which team has more wish points.
Why doesn't CTDB mode work for me?
CTDB mode is still in it's experimental stages, and is very buggy.
How do I use bots?
Just press "=" on your keyboard to bring up the Bot Menu, which will have a menu of options and preferences.
My ESF crashes and returns to desktop after a while!
Make sure you have updated graphics card drivers installed on your computer and try switching your in-game Video Mode to OpenGL on a stable resolution.
How do I see the server status/check someone's SteamID?
Type "status" in the console
How do I take screenshots?
Press F5 in-game. This is automatically saved as a .bmp file in your ESF directory.
Why can't I find any ESF servers with Steam?
When using Steam to browse games, go to filter at the bottom left corner, and change it from the current mod your playing to ESF. Also make sure your firewall or router isn't blocking the connection.
I have a problem with Steam. Should I post it here?

Open Beta Questions & Answers
Remember that this whole F.A.Q is still under construction, and things are still being improved, added, and edited.
What is Open Beta?
Earth's Special Forces Open Beta is actually v1.3, but for public testing. The ESF openbeta is an exact copy of what is being tested inteam. It might be unbalanced, buggy and contains some console commands to make testing easier, that could be considered hacks. If you want to play competitively at a stable server, this might not be the release for you. However, if you would like to take a look in our kitchen, you might want to check this out. No extra effort will be made to ensure things are complete or stable. The release will contain what ever new stuff has been added on that day of the release.
Do I need Steam for this??
Yes, you are required to use Steam. And of course an activated copy of Half-Life in order to play this. If you attempt to play the Open Beta with the WON Version, you will not be able to play the Open Beta. Asking for it on the forums has no use, because no one will help you.
What should I do with this RAR File I downloaded?
First, you need a program to open ZIP Files, Windows XP already has that standard. The file z7 format. so you need 7-zip to extract it (http://www.7-zip.org/). WinRar is also recommended. Once you opened the file, then all you have to do is to extract it to your half-life folder, example below:
/steam/steamapps/username/half-life/
Once you done that, simply restart Steam or boot steam up if not already done so and you'll see "Earth's Special Forces Open Beta" in the game list.
Will I be able to play Earth's Special Froces v1.2.x still?
Yes. Just make sure you don't extract the files from the Open Beta in your Earth's Special Forces v1.2.3 directory, or you will just mess things up. If you accidently did it, just re-install v1.2.x and you are ready to play it again.
I found a bug! Where do I report this?
First look at the list of found bugs. If the bug is not on the list than post in the Bug/Glitch Report section.
What about suggestions?
These goes in the Suggestions section in the Open Beta forum. Not the suggestion section located under Development. Just make sure you will check out the already suggested threads before making your own. You don't want to make duplicate suggestion(s) threads.
How come I can't use AMXModX with the Open Beta?
You have to use Metamod p28. Then install AMXModX as you normally do. Windows users don't have to do the following, but for Linux users you need to to copy all files located in your "/esf_openbeta/linuxdlls/" folder to "/esf_openbeta/dlls/" in order to get AMXModX to load up properly.
What about updates? Do we get these?
Yes, an update will be released for the Open Beta every few weeks.
Why do I see the KI bar 2 times?
That's because the top KI bar is your Stamina, which will be changed later on.
What is this Stamina?
Stamina will be really important in the future in this game. Stamina will be drained when you get hit by people, or when you teleport too much, and even when you block struggle a beam. Stamina how ever will be recovered slowly in time.
What is this Red Bar I see just above my Transformation Meter?
This is the second transformation meter, which displays when you are able to transform. To get it raised, simply attack other people to get it increased. Once it is fully charged, you are able to transform again to the second level.
What is the difference between Dash, and Charged Swoop?
Dash:
Dash will give you a short burst of speed which only lasts less then 2 seconds. It also costs you about 15 to 20% if your KI. You can Dash by simply double click the movement keys, such as double W (forward) in order to Dash forward, and Double D (Right) to Dast to the right. You can Dash multiple times by pressing the desired movement keys as long you have the KI to do so.
Swoop:
Swoop is much like ESF v1.2.x and much like Dash as well. But Swoop is much faster, and will last longer. If you want to use Swoop, simply hold down the Shift key (Charge), which will increase your powerlevel and drain your KI. Once that happens, just press any movement key you want to go to and hold it down and you will start Swooping. You are able to "quick swoop" again to another direction by pressing another movement key while swooping. But by doing so, you will drain more KI.
What about new playable characters in the Open Beta? Are there more??
Yes, there are. Look below for all the existing characters, and the last two in the last are the new ones. You can see when they are new by the "new" image after the name.

Q: What's the latest version that's released?
A: The latest version that's released is ESF 1.3 Open Beta, but it is unstable. The most stable is ESF 1.2.3.
ESF will NOT work with any game other than Half-Life 1
1. Download Steam.
2. Run the .exe file you just downloaded to install Steam and let it update completely. You will need your CD-Key from the back of your Half-Life 1 case.
3. When Steam is finished updating, turn it on.
4. Under the "Games" selection in the Steam toolbar, select "Activate a product on Steam..." and input your CD-Key.
5. Once your CD-Key is authenticated, download Half-Life 1 from Steam and let it update completely.
6. Once that is done, run Half-Life 1 once. If you don't run it at least once, you will not be able to install ESF
7. Download ESF v1.2.3 full installer.
8. Run the installer.
9. It will point to the correct directory for you, so just hit install. The directory should look somewhat like this :
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Your Account\half-life\esf
10. ESF should now appear in your games list.
11. Double-click and enjoy!

What about transformations? Can I transform more than once?
Each character will have more transformations then they had in v1.0 and above. You can now even become Super Saiyan 2. For a complete list and even their transformation powerlevel, check out the list below. Do remember not all transformations are done yet, more will be added for some characters in the future.
(PT Stands for Perfect Transformation, meaning you transform instantly)

Earth's Special Forces Open Beta is actually v1.3, but for public testing. The ESF openbeta is an exact copy of what is being tested inteam. It might be unbalanced, buggy and contains some console commands to make testing easier, that could be considered hacks. If you want to play competitively at a stable server, this might not be the release for you. However, if you would like to take a look in our kitchen, you might want to check this out. No extra effort will be made to ensure things are complete or stable. The release will contain what ever new stuff has been added on that day of the release.
Do I need Steam for this??
Yes, you are required to use Steam. And of course an activated copy of Half-Life in order to play this. If you attempt to play the Open Beta with the WON Version, you will not be able to play the Open Beta. Asking for it on the forums has no use, because no one will help you.
What should I do with this RAR File I downloaded?
First, you need a program to open ZIP Files, Windows XP already has that standard. The file z7 format. so you need 7-zip to extract it (http://www.7-zip.org/). WinRar is also recommended. Once you opened the file, then all you have to do is to extract it to your half-life folder, example below:
/steam/steamapps/username/half-life/
Once you done that, simply restart Steam or boot steam up if not already done so and you'll see "Earth's Special Forces Open Beta" in the game list.
Will I be able to play Earth's Special Froces v1.2.x still?
Yes. Just make sure you don't extract the files from the Open Beta in your Earth's Special Forces v1.2.3 directory, or you will just mess things up. If you accidently did it, just re-install v1.2.x and you are ready to play it again.
I found a bug! Where do I report this?
First look at the list of found bugs. If the bug is not on the list than post in the Bug/Glitch Report section.
What about suggestions?
These goes in the Suggestions section in the Open Beta forum. Not the suggestion section located under Development. Just make sure you will check out the already suggested threads before making your own. You don't want to make duplicate suggestion(s) threads.
How come I can't use AMXModX with the Open Beta?
You have to use Metamod p28. Then install AMXModX as you normally do. Windows users don't have to do the following, but for Linux users you need to to copy all files located in your "/esf_openbeta/linuxdlls/" folder to "/esf_openbeta/dlls/" in order to get AMXModX to load up properly.
What about updates? Do we get these?
Yes, an update will be released for the Open Beta every few weeks.
Why do I see the KI bar 2 times?
That's because the top KI bar is your Stamina, which will be changed later on.
What is this Stamina?
Stamina will be really important in the future in this game. Stamina will be drained when you get hit by people, or when you teleport too much, and even when you block struggle a beam. Stamina how ever will be recovered slowly in time.
What is this Red Bar I see just above my Transformation Meter?
This is the second transformation meter, which displays when you are able to transform. To get it raised, simply attack other people to get it increased. Once it is fully charged, you are able to transform again to the second level.
What is the difference between Dash, and Charged Swoop?
Dash:
Dash will give you a short burst of speed which only lasts less then 2 seconds. It also costs you about 15 to 20% if your KI. You can Dash by simply double click the movement keys, such as double W (forward) in order to Dash forward, and Double D (Right) to Dast to the right. You can Dash multiple times by pressing the desired movement keys as long you have the KI to do so.
Swoop:
Swoop is much like ESF v1.2.x and much like Dash as well. But Swoop is much faster, and will last longer. If you want to use Swoop, simply hold down the Shift key (Charge), which will increase your powerlevel and drain your KI. Once that happens, just press any movement key you want to go to and hold it down and you will start Swooping. You are able to "quick swoop" again to another direction by pressing another movement key while swooping. But by doing so, you will drain more KI.
What about new playable characters in the Open Beta? Are there more??
Yes, there are. Look below for all the existing characters, and the last two in the last are the new ones. You can see when they are new by the "new" image after the name.

*How to Install ESF*
- This is stolen from Pain's thread.ESF will NOT work with any game other than Half-Life 1
1. Download Steam.
2. Run the .exe file you just downloaded to install Steam and let it update completely. You will need your CD-Key from the back of your Half-Life 1 case.
3. When Steam is finished updating, turn it on.
4. Under the "Games" selection in the Steam toolbar, select "Activate a product on Steam..." and input your CD-Key.
5. Once your CD-Key is authenticated, download Half-Life 1 from Steam and let it update completely.
6. Once that is done, run Half-Life 1 once. If you don't run it at least once, you will not be able to install ESF
7. Download ESF v1.2.3 full installer.
8. Run the installer.
9. It will point to the correct directory for you, so just hit install. The directory should look somewhat like this :
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Your Account\half-life\esf
10. ESF should now appear in your games list.
11. Double-click and enjoy!

What about transformations? Can I transform more than once?
Each character will have more transformations then they had in v1.0 and above. You can now even become Super Saiyan 2. For a complete list and even their transformation powerlevel, check out the list below. Do remember not all transformations are done yet, more will be added for some characters in the future.
(PT Stands for Perfect Transformation, meaning you transform instantly)
