I allways wanted to write a good story. Sadly enough my english not good enough to write a convincing story in english, but I want to give it a try anyway. Be gentle on my spelling and stuf =]

Here goes.

Oh, and before you read, this may include some "shocking content/ not suitable content for people of young age"

If content like this is not allowed I will slightly change it.

In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendal entity or Law? Is it like the hand of God hovering above? At least, it is true... that man has no control, even over his own will

Berserk. (c)

Chapter 1. part A.

*Images of the past*

Images of a blood covered woman being raped and tortured in front of a severely wounded man, a small boy was bleeding all over, crying and screaming for it's parents. "Mommy, Dad!...help me!" The man was screaming of agony, as he could not do anything and felt terribly helpless. He was stuck to the ground chained and unable to move cause of his horrible wounds. "No! stop it! I beg of you, let them live, and take me alone, please !" He screamed Suddenly there was horrible shrieking and laughter all over the place. A dark language was spoken, mocking the man after a while he was ignored and the situation went on as it did before.

The man suddenly sat up. Sweat was dropping from his head. He was awake as usual in the middle of the night, after the same nightmare he always had after it had happened. Horrible images were still roaming about through his mind and thoughts. Dareth sighed, "It must have been three years now, since they were taken, yet these nightmares don't stop haunting me". "Elena my beloved and Morhan, my son" Dareth wiped the sweat form his forehead..

He stood next to his bed, his shoulders were broad, with his loose long dark hair reaching down on them. Overall Dareth had a very muscular built.

He quickly made a ponytail, and moved through the door opening.

Bricks were surrounding him, with wooden supports in the ceiling. It was a typical medieval surrounding. Cold stones were covering the floor, with a rug here and there. Dareth walked to his living room and sat down on a chair. All the furniture was made simple and made of wood. The living room was surrounded by the same stones as the bedroom, cold and grey.

Dareth grabbed a bottle of mead with his left hand from the table and drank from it. After drinking some he put it back on the table. The mead left some foam on his upper lip, he wiped it off with his right hand. Somewhat satisfied by the mean he looked out of the windows where two bright silver moons shine, accompanied by small but many ever shining stars.

Dareth rests his head in his hands and sighs again.

"What have I accomplished in these three years... Should I still be alive? I should have died with them.." A tear came down and landed on the back of Dareth's hand.

"They died and I could too.. together with them.., yet I clung to life not knowing what a pitiful being I would become."

"Look at yourself" He screamed. "You where a fool to survive, and live with what happened"

He stared at his sword standing near the window. "It's still not too late, I can still go to them" Dareth let out a scream and stood up abruptly. He threw the table on it's side and kicked it aside with his left foot. He walked to the window and grabbed the cold hilt of his sword.

He did not hesitate and placed the sword on the ground with the blade pointing up. He then aimed the sword at his throat. Dareth raised his body and dropped himself on the sword.

hmm well I'm also a want to be writer and I manily like fantasy genre but I like to include a far amount of gore in them too (made 3 noobish books with the first 2 being 30 pages long and the 3rd only 9 as it's not finished) names are

The Last Hero
The Forgotten Soul Saga
The Forgotten Hope
(if you want to see the first two then PM me or email me and I'll send them to you for a viewing but the last one is not finished and yet not readable)

and I have to say that is bloody fantastic for someone that thinks they can't speak/write english very well. As being english myself *uk teh pwnz :p* I am amazed at the way your grammer and spelling is flawless thoughout as I know most english people can't write that well. Also could and if you don't mind me asking where do you come from?

that is not the best part as it may be short but I'm intrested by the thrid line alone (which is great if you wanted to sell the book) and wonder "dude wtf?" which makes me read on and you write it so well that you almost feel his pain to some extent and you are feeling empathy( means sorry) for the character when we don't even know anything about him.

I'd (if I were you) continue the story somewhat and maybe do a book on why they were attacked as that would intrest me and if you had that at the start it would be a great plot to read into as you'd know how it would end but you'd still read on to find out why? and then hopefully stop him

also don't shy from using graphic or shocking text (bible for instance :p) as books that use these words are more powerful in the way that naked art (not porn) is seen as daring and giving two fingers to other artists so I like it with the gore

I allready have the entire story roughly planned out. You won't get to know what happened back then till the story has advanced quite a lot. The plots will probably have you amazed for a while.

I'm from the netherlands in case you were wondering.

Chapter 1. part B.

*A messenger from beyond*

Dareth found himself on the floor, and moved his hand at his throat. He was still breathing and felt no pain. He looked at his hand, but he saw no blood.

Dareth got on his hands and knees and looked up. The entire room was illuminated with a heavenly bright light. A tall figure in a white robe stood before Dareth looking down on him. The figure looked divine, shining with a silver glance upon him. Dareth put his hand in front of is eyes as the light was so bright he could not look right into it.

"My apologies for the interruption, but I believe I have an offer for you, mortal."

Dareth stood up, and asked: "Who are you, or what are you!? and what is this about offers!?"

The figure answered with a rhetorical question:" Weren't you about to kill yourself?

Dareth felt ashamed and nodded slowly. He tried to look again, but it was still too bright. He covered his eyes again with hand.

"I will offer you a chance to avenge them."

"Avenge them? you mean…"

"Yes, you know who I mean, your wife, your son. I can give you the opportunity to inflict horrible revenge upon those who have pained you so much. Will you accept it?" The figure was overwhelming and it's voice was asking Dareth yet demanding as well.

Dareth thought: "I just attempted to kill myself, I can't get any lower then this, It can not possibly get any worse" Dareth was still on his knees covering his eyes from the bright light, "Revenge.. revenge.. yes, I want revenge. Can you give it to me?"

The figure nodded although it was hard to see him clearly with all the light, there seemed to be a satisfied grin on his face. It made some gestures with his hands, and Dareth and the being disappeared with a flash.

Dareth opened his eyes and saw he was in a room that had the same bright glow over it as the being that spoke to him. It felt pleasant yet uncomfortable. Thinking of it, where did it go? And what the hell was going on!?

Suddenly a heavy deep male voice spoke out loud. "Are you the one!?"

Dareth looked around but there was nothing there, he then answered: "If you are speaking of the one who seeks revenge, yes. I am the one"

The voice continued "Very well, if you seek revenge, I shall grant you revenge. However,.."

Dareth interrupted" However? Is there a catch?"

"Do not interrupt me mortal !" Said the voice angrily. "You should be grateful for us not letting you die the pitiful way you were about to. Be still and listen to what will be said. As I said, "however" you will have to perform a task for us first. Lately we have been obstructed by an evil force and we ask of you to eliminate it entirely. You will be given proper equipment and the necessary power to succeed."

"Evil forces? What do you mean?"

"These forces are mainly demons that are obstructing our goal"

"Demons!?" said Dareth somewhat startled. "I've never fought anything like that. And what is the goal they are obstructing, if I may ask?"

“All will be revealed in time, mortal. You’ll see.”

Another bright flash appeared, "They sure know their way with that ****ing light all the time" Dareth thought.

Next to Dareth stood a suit of armour holding a sword. The armour seemed to be made of truly magnificent material. It had no flaws and it's shape was perfect. The sword it held was a two handed one. It was large enough to kill a wild boar with a single strike. The sword was constantly pulsing with a blue glow.

Dareth was amazed by the looks of it. He stepped over to the armour and touched it with his left hand. It felt cold. He stepped around the armour and checked it out. "Could this be armour of the Gods?" he wondered. "There is no way such a thing can be crafted by any normal means." "The same goes for that sword" he said, while looking at it.

"Put it on mortal" the voice demanded.

Dareth did as the voice said. He removed the armour from the stance and put it on, piece by piece. When he was done, he grabbed the sword with one hand and wielded it as if it was nothing. "What is going on, this sword should be ten times as heavy, yet it feels as if I'm wielding a short sword"

"Mortal, not only does it protect you from getting wounded, it also fortifies your strength greatly as well as your will and senses. This armour will let you fight beings such as demons" "Such things are necessary for a mortal to fight creatures from the planes of hell."

Dareth said: "You seem to be quite powerful, why are you not getting rid of these demons yourself?"

The voice laughed. "I might have the power, yes. But I don’t have luxury of being able to walk around in the mortal world"

”What do you mean?” asked Dareth.

“We are astral beings, trapped in the astral planes. Allthough we can influence the mortal world, we can not directly act in it, therefore we need you to carry out this task.”

“I see, so where do I go. “

The being from before appeared again, and gestured Dareth to follow him with his index finger.

Dareth walked up to him. "Where are we going?" Shortly Dareth blinked with his eyes, he looked around and saw he was back in his living room. "A dream?"

hmm again great writing but only one crit this time, a wild boar is not something that is hard to kill so maybe change it to a wild bear/elephant/lion etc or even "that could destroy the most powerful of beings in a single blow" I'll post my second story soon tho so you can have your revenge soon :p

=] You obviously never encountered a wild boar before. But when I get to my writing again, I'll change it into something stronger.

I also changed the first chapter a bit, it needed a minor intro of Dareth.

edit. Latest chapter.

Chapter 2A

*The unexpected guest*

Dareth looked again and then saw he was still wearing the armour and holding the sword. "I see, but now what!?" Dareth checked out his living room and discovered an envelope on the chimney.

Dareth opened it, a letter and a folded piece of paper were inside. He held the letter in his hand sitting down near the light of the fireplace. "Avenger, your first goal will be eliminating everything in the region marked on the map that comes with the letter. Don't worry about having to find your enemies, you'll see when you get there."

The letter was unsigned.

He unfolded the map and checked it out. The map was made of rough kind of paper, brownish with black outlines on it. However there was no mark to be found. "What the hell is this supposed to mean!" Suddenly from out of nowhere an X was scorched on the map. Dareth sighed "Those guys sure like to do things the flashy way..."

Dareth checked out the map again and was trying to figure out where the region was located. "From the looks of it I will have to travel East to Madarren, probably about three days of travelling by foot." It was still night although early in the morning. "I might as well take of right away" Dareth quickly packed together some supplies like food and a blanket to sleep in. He opened the single cabinet in the room and fetched a brown pouch. The pouch was obviously filled with coin as shape of round metal could be seen through the pouch. "This should get me going for a while." he said.

The door was open and Dareth stepped through the opening. The armour was shining brightly by the reflections of the two moons, named Hayaleth and Gesamé. He locked the door and put the key in the pouch with the coins. "I'd better not lose this."

After a long walk Dareth decided to take a break and have a meal. Dareth sat down underneath a three and leaned against it. He ate some bread and drank some water from his water pouch. A cool breeze was in the air, leaves were falling down as Autumn was already advancing, the ground was covered with a brown blanket of leaves. Dareth looked up, the sun had been hiding behind the clouds all day now, and there was no sign of any changes. "I'd best find a place to gather some wood for a campfire, it will be a cold night from the looks of it."

Dareth cleared out and resumed his journey to the East. He continued walking, until he found an old water well. He refilled his water pouch. After a while the clouds were getting darker and darker, and soon it began to rain. Large drops were falling down. Dareth covered his head with a cloak and was rather irritated. "Bah.. why did I bother to fill that damn thing. Plenty of water coming from above now.."

The clouds were finally driven away but the sun was already setting. Dareth looked for a place to spend the night and after a while he found large rock that was high and low enough to offer some shelter. Even though the sky was clear now, everything was still wet from the everlasting rain that started in the afternoon. "****.. no campfire I guess, the blanket will have to do."

Dareth awoke somewhere during the night. Something was sneaking around. Dareth tried to get his eyes used to the dark, and for a brief moment he saw a silhouette running from one place to another only to disappear again without a sound. "A stealth user." Dareth thought.

The stealthy person was trying to get a better view of Dareth, slowly approaching him through the bushes. "Ouch! Bramble vines! oops.." The rogue felt a blade along her neck. "First of all, why are you spying on me, second of all, you're not exactly good at it, are you?" Dareth said sarcastic. The rogue removed her hood and revealed her face and her long dark red hair. "A woman !? no wait, this is a mere girl." The girl was looking rather scared with blade close to cutting her neck. "Please, my lord, I mean no harm, I..I I mean" Dareth relaxed and put his sword back in the sheath. "Easy now, what's your name and why are you outside at this time, a girl like you should be sleeping in her bed by now."

The girl stood up, she was tall and slim, dressed in dark studded leather. Her long hair was reaching her waist. She put her hands behind her back and was looking down.

"M, My name I.. is Karima. I..I don't have a place I can call home, I live wherever I go, I survive by stealing little bits of travellers, nothing more. All I wanted was a chunk of bread or anything else I can eat, I' really don't mean any harm my lord !" Dareth felt empathy for the girl as he could see she was not lying, although she was not skinny, she was not well fed either.

"Very well. You can spend the night here, and have breakfast in the morning."

The girl looked overjoyed. "Thank you so much my lord!"

"The names Dareth by the way, no need to call me a lord." Dareth took her to his shelter and gave her his blanket.

"But my lord."

"Sigh.. it's Dareth, and I'll be fine, get some sleep."

The sun was already shining, Dareth was awake and next to him the girl was still sleeping. "Hey lady, wake up! Breakfast time."

Karima slowly opened her eyes and yawned a few times, she rubbed her eyes and then looked around. Dareth reached in his bag and took some his bread. He took half of it and gave the other half to Karima. She was eating like she was starved, and finished rather quickly. She was looking at Dareth. Dareth noticed it and reached in his bag again. He threw two apples to Karima. She catched them with ease, smiled and started to eat again.

"Mmbrl Rbmble." Karima said while she was still eating. "What?" said Dareth. Karima swallowed it and then said: "Thank you so much, mister Dareth, I haven't been eating for a while now and this is the first time I'm actually satisfied since a very long time."

"No problem."

After they finished they sat down for a bit, Karima turned her head to Dareth.

"Mister Dareth?" Dareth looked ahead of him. "Yes?"

"I was wondering if I could, well, maybe, travel with you." Dareth thought it over and said. "Well, you can at least travel with me to the nearest town or village." Dareth grinned. "Thanks to you I need new supplies"

Karima blushed and she replied with a shy smile "Thank you."

Dareth packed his stuff and stood up. "Be right back, men's business" Karima blushed again. "No manners or whatsoever" she whispered to herself. Dareth soon returned. "On your feet, we should be going."

Karima stood up and walked next to Dareth. The path they were walking on was covered with brown autumn leafs, they could only see the path along the trees. The sun was shining through the branches. The forest was looking truly magnificent now. After a while the sun was at it's highest point. They reached an open place and saw smoke rising in the far distance. "That's where we're headed." Dareth said. "Probably a few more hours." There were a few rocks in the open place, and Dareth decided this would be a good place to take little break. They chose long flat rock to sit on. He gave his water pouch to Karima and she drank from it. After she was done she gave it back to Dareth who also drank from it. "Remind me to refill it when we reach that place, we're almost out." Karima nodded.

While they continued walking Dareth noticed how Karima kept smiling all the time. "She must have been lonely for a long time, I guess" Dareth thought, while looking around for a sign of the smoke they saw earlier. "So where are you from?"

"I can't remember" Karima answered. "For as long as I know I've been wandering around in these woods, sometimes when it's cold I go to a town or village and ask for a place to sleep. "Once I spent the night at an old leatherworkers' place, I took the stuff I'm wearing now from that place." She grinned. "From that day on I decided to become a great rogue, but as you can see I still have room for improvement." Dareth chuckled. "You might have succeeded if it wasn't for that bramble bush."

It was getting dark and Gareth was wondering how much longer it would take to reach that place. Finally they saw some light through the trees. From the looks of it, it was a small village. Although it was dark, Gareth saw about seven buildings, one of them appeared to be an inn. "We're in luck." he thought. Gareth opened the door and looked inside; the place was crowded with friendly laughing people. Everyone was having a good time from the looks of it. Gareth looked at Karima and nodded. They walked through the doorway.

Suddenly a man stood up and pointed at Karima. "That girl is a thief! she stole my finest horse." Dareth looked at Karima. "Did you?" Karima got a satisfied grin on her face. "I sure did" Dareth shook his head and asked the man. "What does she owe you, old man?"

The man was obviously drunk and said: "Err well, one and two err, that'll be five pints!" Everyone laughed and Dareth gave the man some coin to buy his five pints. "Let's hope he won't remember a thing when he wakes up. I'd rather not pay for a full horse." Dareth walked to the counter and asked the bartender for a room with two beds. The bartender gave Dareth a key and directions to the room when he paid the man. They walked through the doorway, and suddenly Dareth bursted out from laughing. "Hahaha you really stole that old guy's horse huh, what did you do with it?"

"I sold it for twenty silver pieces. I didn't have to steal for a month." Dareth laughed again. "Good choice."

They reached their room. "It sure has been a long time since I last laughed." Dareth thought, while unlocking the door with the key. He opened it and let Karima chose first which bed she wanted. Karima tried both beds and she chose the one with the soft mattress. Dareth undressed and Karima couldn't help but to look at him. "Do you mind" Said Dareth. Karima quickly turned her head around and blushed again. Dareth laid down on his bed and blew the candle out. "There, you can undress safely now" Karima undressed herself and found her way to the bed with her hands. Soon she was asleep.

Chapter 2B.

*Mission accomplished*

Dareth was thinking of his next steps. "I don't know how long I can take her with me, but I seriously can not take her with me, it would put her in great danger." Dareth sighed. "But also, I can't just leave her behind either, it would be cruel to do. I don't even know what will happen or what it will be like, but I do know I can not take her with me to whatever that place is. I'll have to make up some sort of excuse when I'm leaving, and make sure she's safe while I do my thing. This way I can take her with me again when I'm done." Dareth yawned "Uwaaah, I should get some sleep now." He turned on his side and fell asleep.

"Breakfast!" someone was knocking on the doors and was waking everyone. The sun shined through most of the windows. Dareth was already awake and dressed, Karima opened her eyes, and yawned a few times. "Hey you, get dressed and meet me in the main room." Dareth said. He left the room and closed the door behind him. "Not even asking how well I slept, hmmph." Karima was standing next to her bed undressed and was combing her long hair. She had a pale skin, her body was beautiful and well developed for her age. Even though she no longer remembered her age, she thought herself as seventeen years old, which probably was about right.

She quickly finished combing her hair and got dressed.

Dareth already finished breakfast when Karima arrived. She sat down on a chair in front of Dareth at the same table, and started 'devouring' her meal. "Be right back, I need to pay the innkeeper and maybe ask for some further directions." "May." Dareth chuckled. "Someone ought to teach you some table manners."

"And someone should teach you all the other manners." Karima mumbled.

Karima finished and was looking around for Dareth. He was still talking to the innkeeper. They seemed to have discussion about the map Dareth carried with him. "It's best to leave the road after five miles to the south, from there you probably need to walk about 8 miles East." Dareth looked at the innkeeper and said: "Any reason why I shouldn't take the shortcut and go through the middle ?" The bartender got a serious look on his face. "There's a dangerous swamp to the east from here, I'm sending you around it, as most people never came back when they went in.

"Right, I'll take the long route then, one more thing, can you take care of young girl over there for the rest of this day? Be sure to keep her busy with some labour. I'll be back when night falls and pay you well." The bartender smiled "If the coin is good, I'll gladly do it." Dareth nodded. "It's settled then, I'll talk to you again in the morning. Thank you"

"No problem sir."

Dareth returned to Karima who was starting to grow inpatient. When Dareth sat down she asked "So where will we go today?" Dareth cleared his throat. "Today you won't be going anywhere, I got some business to attend to, and I can't have you go with me"

"Are you leaving me?" Karima was looking scared and sad at the same time. "No I won't leave you." Dareth said. "I'll be back when the night falls." Karima was obviously relieved. "Never again that loneliness" she thought.

"By the way that man will be taking care of you today." Karima stood up. "What! you're letting a filthy old man taking care of me, how old do you think I am!?" Dareth shook his head, "I don't know how old you are, but I do know you'll get yourself into trouble if left alone." Karima got slightly angry "What makes you think that!" Dareth raised his voice. "How about stealing a horse, silly girl!" Karima quickly sat down and knew he had her. She looked the other way and said: "Fine, have it your way." Dareth covered his mouth with his hand and pretended to be coughing. He walked outside far enough for Karima not to hear her, and he started to laugh out loud. "What a kid."

As said to him, Dareth walked about five miles to the south, after a while he saw a clearing in the bushes and trees, although this was a path, it was rarely used as people from the region stayed clear from the swamp. Dareth had to push some branches aside every once in a while, but the path was very accessible even though it was rarely used. After a while he reached another clearing and knew he had to go East now.

Dareth suddenly stopped, he unsheathed his sword and saw it was pulsing a blue glow. "Could it mean I'm near the region?" It didn't take long for him to find out, he headed East again and soon saw it. Dareth remembered the words from the letter he got. "****, it wasn't a joke, this place looks like hell !" In front of Dareth was a cave, carved out in a very dark rock. The entrance was illuminated by a red light, red objects and strange objects where 'decorating' it. Dareth could see silhouettes standing inside. Two of them, probably guards.

He unsheathed his sword, it was no longer pulsing, it constantly glowed very strong and brightly now. "****, I guess this is the real thing then. No turning back now." Dareth carefully sneaked to the entrance which was hard with all that noisy armour. He took of his cloak and uncovered the armour.

Suddenly one of the guards came out. Dareth saw it. A dark blue skin, six glowing green eyes, a vertical mouth, many horns in a row from his head down his spine. The creature turned around and was looking straight in the eyes of Dareth. It yelled at the other guards with a horrible scream. Dareth did not hesitate, he leaped towards the creature and screamed "You ugly ****, take this!" He swung his sword three times. Blood was all over the place, the creature lost four eyes and an arm, and got almost cleft in two. The creature screamed out in agony before it dropped dead.

Even though some guards were already alarmed, the deadscream attracted even more of them. "Who's next, you mother****ers!"
Dareth enraged himself and leaped towards the first group, like a whirlwind he swooped through them and left nothing but blood and severed bodyparts. He stood still for a while. "This blade, it's cuts like fire through snow, and the armour is making me much faster then I should be. Truly this has been crafted by the Gods." Dareth did not have time to stall and admire these artefacts as more demons were approaching, he quickly recomposed himself, and continued the slaughter.

The fight had been lasting for an hour now Dareth was catching his breath, as he assumed he killed every single one of them by now. He was looking around and saw a massacre, there were at least sixty corpses lying and piling up. He was awed. "Did I do this?" His armour was dyed in blood. "****, is this for real !?" Suddenly from behind a deep hideous voice came. *Bravo mortal. You slayed my minions, now face me instead!*

Dareth looked behind and before he knew he it, he was knocked aside. It was fast! Dareth hit a wall with his back and his head, he had a cut on the side of his head above his ear. He bleeding but was not seriously wounded. Dareth quickly stood up and assumed a defensive stance. "Show yourself, you bastard!" The creature stepped forwards from the shadows. It was a lot larger and more muscular then the others. *Mortal, that blow should have killed you. I will make sure my next attack will do more then just make a scratch.*

Dareth prepared and kept a close eye on the massive beast. It disappeared! "****, it's fast!" Dareth closed his eyes and used his hearing. He heard it! It was coming from the left. The creature jumped at Dareth's face. Dareth quickly dropped himself and held the sword up. He felt the sword cutting through the flesh. Dareth opened his eyes and saw the creature standing next to him. "Impossible!" Then suddenly it separated in two, both halves fell in the opposite direction, blood was flowing everywhere. He did it.

Dareth sat down against the cave wall. "A lucky shot, but I did it nevertheless and man what a fight!, this is nothing compared to the mercenary life I used to have." He sighed satisfied. "I'd better go now, I still got a long walk ahead, and someone is probably waiting for me."

He picked up his bag laying outside, he used the bandage he took with him and wrapped it around his head covering the wound, and then returned back to the inn, after a three our walk he returned at the small village. His armour was still covered in blood. He took it off before going any further and wrapped it in his cloak. He walked to the inn and stepped through the doorway entering the main hall. He dropped the cloak with armour on the counter. "Hey old man!"

"Ah, you returned, wounded?"

"It's nothing. Can you have this cleaned before morning? And no questions." Dareth handed over some coin.

"It shall be taken care of sir."

"How's the girl?" Dareth asked.

"she got tired and went to bed"

"Really?"

"Yes she's been working hard all day, so let's say this night and breakfast are for free hm?"

"A good offer which I shall not resist old man. Good night."

"And a goodnight to you sir."

Dareth walked to his room. He took a candle with him. He opened the door and saw Karima sleeping. He locked the door and soon thereafter he laid down on his bed. "Mission accomplished."

Chapter 3

*Headed South.*

"Ouch, cut it out!" Karima was taking the bandage off. "Would you sit still allready, we need to wash that wound, or you'll get a nasty infection." Dareth mumbled something unhearable. "Hey that hurts you know! You should not just rip it off" Karima chuckled "You call yourself a man? From the looks of it your had some painfull business to take care off yesterday, so don't go cry over me taking care of something that's your own fault." Dareth sat still again. "Women.." Karima ripped the bandage of even harder. "Allright allright, I'll shut up." After the bandage was taken of, Karima cleaned the wound a wet hot towell. "There, now let's put some new bandages on." Dareth stood up. "No need, I'll have it stitched."

"Fine, by the way, where's that armor of your's?"

"Somewhere." He looked the other way and thought. "I can't tell her what really happened yesterday, she might not believe it, or even worse, she will want to go with me next time."

"Allright, I won't ask anything."

Karima cleaned up the room, while Dareth headed to the innkeeper. "Old man." The innkeeper looked up from behind the counter. "Is there a doctor of some sort in this

place? And is it cleaned?"

"Second house on the right when you walk out of the inn. And it sure is, I'll have it ready when you come back."

"Thanks."

"No problem."

Dareth walked out of the inn and headed to the second house to the right just like innkeeper said. On the way he saw a smithy. "That should come in handy." After a little while he came back from the doctor with a stitched wound. He headed to the smithy, and looked for it's owner. An anvil and a forge were standing outside, from the looks of it, they were well used. Dareth walked to the entrance of the smithy. "Hello, anyone here?" After a while an old grey bearded man came out. "Are you the owner?" The old man was touching his long beard. "I might be, what's in it for me hm?" Dareth said:"I'm here to do business." The old man chuckled a bit. "That makes me the owner then."

"So what are you looking for hm"? Dareth was thinking. "Well this is the situation. I'm looking for a suitable weapon for someone of young age, she's agile and fast but not very strong." The old man nodded "I've seen a young lady working at the inn yesterday. Would that be her hm.? Dareth nodded. "Well then, I think I have just the thing." He walked to the back of the shop and returned with something wrapped in some rags. Two daggers were wrapped inside. He got them out and showed them to Dareth. "My best work yet, balanced daggers, suitable for hand to hand combat and throwing" Dareth took one and tried it out, he balanced it on his indexfinger. The daggers had a dark purple colour. and did not shine by the least bit. "I'll take these, how much are they?" "Normally they would not be for sale" said the old smith. "But I see you are a man of doing favors hm?" Dareth looked at the smith "What's the deal old man?"

"There's an important package that needs to be delivered. You look capable of doing it. The daggers are your's if you promise to deliver it, so what do you say hm?" Dareth scratched his head. "Ouch, forgot about those stitches." The smith lifted his eyebrow. "Is there anything I should know, old man?"

"A smart one hm?" The smith chuckled again. "Very well, this package contains a very valuable gem that needs to be delivered to an old friend of mine, he's a juweler." Dareth nodded "That does not sound so hard, what's the catch?" The smith held the package in his hand and looked at it. "There are thieves and bandits in the near vincinity who know about it. If someone from this village or myself would deliver it, they would surely be ambushed, killed, and the gem would be lost, that's why I'm asking you"

Dareth suddenly thought of something else "I should be given my next instructions anytime soon. I'd better wait for those first." Dareth said:"I'll let you know when I'm ready old man. I got other business to attend to aswell, if that business would be headed the same way as that package, you got yourself a deal." The smith nodded "Very well, the package is going south. If your business is going south aswell, just stop by and you got yourself two excellent daggers."

Dareth walked back to the inn. In the main hall Karima was waiting for him. "Wait here." Dareth walked to the innkeeper. The innkeeper kneeled down to get something from under the counter. He dropped the cloak with the armor on the counter. "Just as you asked sir. All cleaned." Dareth nodded. "Thanks, what do I owe you."

"Nothing, last night and breakfast are for free, might aswell charge nothing for a little cleaning then."

"You're the best, old man."

"Sir, for you It's Gerard, not old man."

Darteh grinned "Thanks, Gerard. The name's Dareth, not sir."

Dareth walked to his room and put his armor back on, after that he put the cloak back on his shoulder with the cap hanging down. Suddenly the map came of out his bag on it's own and landed on the floor, another X was marked on it. Dareth looked around for another letter, and even checked the one with the first mission written on it. "Simular mission I guess. And it looks like I just won two daggers." Dareth put the map back his bag, left the room and locked it.

"Here's the key, I will be going south, if things look like it, I will return, untill then farewell, Gerard." Gerard smiled and said: "A pleasure doing business with you sir Dareth."

"Follow me, I got something for you." Said Dareth to Karima. They walked out of the inn and were walking to the smithy, the smith was outside working on a new shield. He hit the steel with precision and shaped it slowly. "Oi, the daggers!" The smith looked behind him and saw Dareth with Karima. "In a minute, the steel is still hot." The old smith striked the steel with his hammer untill it cooled down. He layed the hammer aside and walked into the smithy. He returned with the package, a small iron box with woolen filling to protect the content from being scratched. "Here's they key that comes with the box, don't loose it." Dareth took the package.

"Got a map, i can use?" Dareth got the map from his bag. The smith ignored the strange X's and marked the location of the juweler on Dareth's map. "What you're looking for is a large town with a wall around it. It's well guarded." Dareth nodded. "Looks like a half day of travel by foot."

He turned to Karima and gave her the rags with the daggers in it. Karima excitedly unwrapped it. "For me? They sure are dark." She held the daggers in both her hands and swung with them. Dareth had to dodge her. He smiled "Hey be carefull will you, or I won't let you have them." Karima chuckled "Oopsy." The smith was frisking his beard again. "You know, if you learn how to wield them properly, you should ask my friend the juweler to *cough* add something special. don't ask about it, you'll see." Karima nodded. She walked over to Dareth and kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you." Dareth looked the other way, as he was blushing a little bit. "Women.." The smith saw Dareth's face and bursted out laughing. Karima was looking a little confused "What is it, it's my hair right?" The smith shook his head and went back to work. "You'd best

get going, I'm expecting rain by the end of the day."

"Rain? Well, this is probably just a little bit more then a half day travel, we should be arriving before the sun sets, if we leave now, that is."

Yas! Keep it coming! Only one small mistake I noticed in that last one.
You seemed to call the main character Gareth. I suppose you got confused with the innkeeper.
You got me pulled in though. I can't stop reading. So you better have more! ;)

Fixed the typo, the reason is, the character's name used to be Gareth but I found it to generic. I changed one letter, and it looked a lot better to me. Anyway, did I hear someone say, "I want more?" More it is.

Chapter 4

*Bandits and a lost key*

Dareth went ahead and took the path to the south. Karima thanked the smith for the daggers. "Be gone silly girl, I got to earn my living." The smith turned around again and was heating up the steel again. "How rude.." Karima sighed and ran after Dareth.

"Hey Dareth wait up!" Karima was catching up on Dareth, He stood still for a while and soon Karima was walking next to him again, it was about two hours before mid day. Dareth decided to walk at least four hours as they just had breakfast at the inn. "Really, four hours?" Karima complained "Can't we just hire some horses?" Dareth sarcastically replied with: "Why don't you steal two huh?" Karima stopped for a while. "That was really low Dareth!" Dareth laughed and continued walking. Karima followed him with her head down, being angry. She soon forgot about it and unsheathed her daggers from her belt. She started playing with them. "Put them back, I'll teach you when we stop for a little meal." Said Dareth. "Really!?" Karima got excited. "Yes, really."

After about four long hours they stopped to eat a bit and have a little rest if it wasn't for the daggers. After they finished Dareth stood up. "Alright for starters, are you left or right handed? Karima swung with the daggers a bit. "Definitely right handed." Dareth nodded. 'Very well, use the your left hand to defend yourself with, and your right hand to attack. When you're skilled enough you'll be able to fend of big swords like mine. But now let me just use this stick." Dareth picked up a branch from the ground and pulled the twigs of, till an almost straight stick was left of it.

"Prepare." Karima took a defensive stance, her left foot in front, and her right foot back, assuming a well balanced stance for good defence and attack. "Not bad, now try to fend this off or dodge it." Dareth hit a couple of time from above, Karima tried to block it straight and got blown back falling on her back. "Don't hold it completely horizontal. That way you'll take a hit and this happens, try to point it a little more down so the weapon you block slides down from it and misses you" Karima got back up and took the stance again. This time she blocked it successfully. "Now try different directions with the same technique." Dareth striked at her from and the side. Karima quickly mastered her defence and soon started dodging attacks she did not have to block.

"She's good for a beginner." Dareth thought. Dareth stopped. "Alright now try to attack me while defending, don't worry about hurting me." Karima did not hesitate and leaped at Dareth. Dareth swung from the side with the stick. Karima jumped up and dodged it. Dareth swung again from the other side, this time higher. Karima did a side roll and jumped up rapidly, with amazing speed she attacked with both daggers. Dareth almost had trouble dodging them. "You'll have to try harder then that!" Dareth quickly ducked and swung the stick at Karima's left knee, and hit it. Karima fell down.

"Alright all right I'm sorry, I should have not hit you so hard." Tears were flowing from Karima's eyes, she obviously got hit pretty hard. "Shut up!" She was holding her knee and cried. Dareth then sat down and held her leg gently, he grabbed the water pouch and poured some cold water over her sore knee. Karima stopped crying. "I should have dodged it huh?" She said while smiling through her tears.

"Can you still stand?" Karima stood up and sat down right away. She was clearly in pain. "Sigh, I guess there's no other way." Dareth grabbed the sword and the sheath from his back and holstered it on his side. He then sat down in front of Karima. "Climb on my back." Karima climbed on Dareth's back and held him tightly. Dareth smiled "Hey, before you go to sleep, we'll take a closer look at that knee when we're near some water. There's plenty of creeks in this area." Karima nodded. Dareth started walking again. Soon he felt her head resting on his shoulder. "Heh, next time I'll have to train her even harder, the enemy will show no remorse when she's struck to the ground."

Dareth barely any effort carrying the girl on his back.

"Wake up." Karima opened her eyes and yawned. "Are we there?" Dareth chuckled. "No, I'm not a horse." Karima looked around and saw a small creek flowing nearby.

"Let's take a look at that knee shall we?"

He carried her to the river and put her down. "You'll have to take them of, I won't look." Karima blushed and took her leather pants off. She then rested her sore knee in the cold water. At first it was very cold and painful, but after a while the water soothed the pain. "How long do I have to hold my knee in the water, Dareth?" Dareth was leaning against a tree looking at the opposite direction. "If it's no longer hurting you can take it out. Wrap a tight bandage around it when it's dry." Karima did as Dareth said, and got dressed again.

Karima was able to stand and walk again, Dareth decided to get going right away, as they wasted quite a lot of time. "Should..hmpf." Dareth covered Karima's mouth. "shh. something's near." He reached for his sword. "Lookout!" Arrows were raining from above, Dareth pushed Karima aside and then sought shelter from the arrows himself. "Remember what I thought you, you will have to fight for real now!" Dareth unsheathed his sword and held it up, Karima did the same with her daggers and assumed the defensive stance again. Three were coming the front, and four were coming behind. From the looks of it they were a common group of bandits who raid everything they see.

Dareth leaped at the attackers and swung with his sword. "One" He swung again. "Two" He dodged an attack and stabbed the next attacker. "Three" Meanwhile Karima was doing really well, she dodged most of the attacks and rarely had to block, she precisely aimed for their throats and finished all of them within seven attempts. she looked behind her. "Four." Dareth said.

"Five." Behind Dareth another attacker dropped dead, Karima had thrown her dagger at the bandit and succeeded in piercing his heart from behind. "Well done." Karima dropped on her knees and looked at her hands, they were dyed in warm red blood. she realized what she had done, she took someone's life. She got hysterical and was shaking all over. Dareth quickly ran to her and held her tightly. "It's all right to be scared. My first time wasn't very different from yours. You'll get used it to it, wether you like it or not."

Dareth let her sit down when she was a little calm again, and he searched the bodies. One of them carried a letter with him. It said: "Watch the road carefully today, a man and a young girl will pass by. They carry a package with them with an item inside of great value. Kill both of them and bring me the item. P.S. Do not open the package."

After Dareth read it he said:" Sure makes you wonder what the gem looks like. Someone was prepared to take our lives over it. Also, how did this person know we carrying it and who could it be?" Dareth scratched his head, this time on the other side. "I guess we'd better hurry up delivering it, and be rid of it before anything else like this happens."

Karima had come to her senses again. "Why don't we open it? The old man did no forbid us to open it did he?"

Dareth agreed. He searched for the key. Karima looked at him as Dareth was checking his bag and his pockets. "****, it's gone!" Dareth and Karima started searching the ground, but found nothing. "Even if it is on the ground, it's like searching for a ****ing needle in a haystack."

"Mind your language..." Karima said. Dareth cooled down and thought of where he might have lost it. Suddenly he felt something in his right boot. Like a pebble. He pulled it out and held it down on the upside. Karima was rolling on the ground, laughing as hard as she could. "Hahahaha!" Dareth held the key in his hand, and couldn't help but to laugh himself. After they stopped laughing, Karima wiped the tears from her eyes, and sat up again. She couldn't help but to chuckle a few times. "Alright all right, I get the point already, you can stop now." Karima got a grin on her face. "What's the matter tough guy, can't handle a good laugh eh?" Dareth smiled. "Fine, laugh all you want, but it could have happened to anyone you know."

"Pfft, sure it could.." She chuckled. "Next time let me do the brainwork."

Dareth nodded and smiled. "Very well, here you go." He gave the box and the key to Karima. "Keep them safe."

Soon after that they resumed their journey to the south. Karima refilled the water pouch as she tried tell Dareth it was empty before they got attacked. After a long walk after sunset they reached the town. From the looks of it, it was well guarded. The town was surrounded by a high brick wall with guard towers placed behind the wall every hundred feet.

There were to guards stationed at the main gate. Dareth and Karima walked towards them. They lowered their halberds. "Your business?" Dareth politely answered with: "We're here to deliver an item to the local jeweller, if we may."

Karima was awed. "He just used manners..., unbelievable." They walked through the gate. Dareth stopped for a while "You know I can't just call them bastards or old men, they wouldn't let us in. "Karima was startled. "Yes, I saw the look on your face, kid" Both recomposed and searched for the jeweller. The sun was almost setting now. Someone was walking by, and Dareth asked him some directions to the jeweller. The man explained how to get there, Dareth thanked him and he followed the directions. After a short walk they reached the jeweller’s shop. Dareth opened the door. A voice came from inside. "I've been expecting you."

Chapter 5.

*The jeweller*

A tall white haired man stood behind a counter, he was wearing a long dark blue robe. His face was young, yet old. He was a strange man to look upon. Dareth stepped through the doorway with Karima following him. "The package please." Dareth looked at Karima and nodded. Karima layed the box and key on the counter. The jeweller put it underneath counter and took a closer look at the strangers standing in his shop. "Hmm, I suppose you must be Dareth, and that makes you Karima." Dareth took a step back and held the hilt of his sword ready to unsheathe it. He pointed at the jeweller "How the hell do you know who we are!" The jeweller was not impressed by the least bit. "Be careful when you swing with that, you might knock something over." Dareth grinned. "This will do a lot more then that, if you don't tell us how you know our names." Karima kicked Dareth in the shin. "Stop being rude will you!" Karima walked closer to the strange man.

"Are you a mage?" Karima looked the man straight in the eyes. "Well well, aren't you a bright one. That would explain how I knew your names now wouldn't it?" Karima nodded and her eyes were sparkling. "Yes I'm a mage, there's no denying it, but don't tell anyone else all right?" Karima jumped up. "I knew it!" Dareth relaxed and released his sword. "Do you have a name we can call you by?" The mage nodded. "You may call be Algaran."

Karima unsheathed her daggers. "The mage lifted his eyebrows. "I thought we were done with the hostilities." Karima chuckled. "I mean no harm, the smith told me you would add something extra to these, but he did not tell me what." The mage examined the daggers, he held on in his hands and put his monocle on. He brought it closer to his face. "You really outdid yourself this time.." The mage continued. "I don't know why you got these, but I trust the smith's judgement. Let me tell you something about these daggers." Karima leaned with her arms on the counter.

"Once when the smith still lived in this town." Karima interrupted "He lived here, in this town?" The mage replied. "Yes, about fifteen years ago he left for the village where he lives now, but that's irrelevant. You see, one day a stranger visited his shop, he wanted to buy the smith's best sword, and he would pay well for it. The smith did not think any of the swords he crafted were worthy to be called his best one yet. So he crafted a new blade, he kept folding it, and hitting it with his hammer, and after one month the sword was done. Truly the sword was amazing, it was strong and sharp enough to slice a large three in two." Dareth was looking around in the shop as he did not care for 'fairytales'." Karima was still listening with her full attention. "So what happened? Did the stranger get the sword?" The mage nodded. "Yes, but in exchange for something extraordinary. You see, this stranger did not carry any coin with him, but he did have something else."

"It appears the stranger returned one day and he claimed the sword. When the smith asked for his payment, the man went outside and brought a large chunk of strange ore inside. The ore had a dark purple colour, and did not shine by the least bit. The smith thought he was being tricked and took the chunk for ordinary stone. He got his smithinghammer and hit the 'Stone' with all he had. The hammer was smashed into pieces, yet there was no sign of any damage on the stone. The smith was amazed by the strength of the material and he agreed it was a fair trade. Later on he tried to heat it up in his forge, but it was no use. It would not heat up, no matter how hot his forge was. This is when I got to know the smith. He searched for someone with knowledge of the earth and it's minerals. He ended up in my shop."

"Did he take the ore with him.?" The mage shook his head. "No he asked me to come with him. When he described the material, I closed my shop and followed him to his smithy. He showed me the ore and I was amazed, never in my long mage lifespan had I seen something this rare. I looked upon and recognized it immediately. 'Adamant' "Karima lifted her eyebrows "Adamant.? What's that?" The story seemed to catch Dareth's attention as well now. The mage continued. "Yes, adamant. This ore is very rare.

It's created from another rare ore, called mithril. When mithril is touched by a tremendous amount of magic, it transmutes into adamant. Dragons have that kind of power."

Karima opened her mouth. "Dragons, but I thought they were just myths."

The mage nodded. "They no longer appear in the open, they sleep in their deep dark mountains now, but this is not about dragons. The smith told me he could not heat it up, and that it was useless to him. I told the smith I could help him with that, and so I enchanted his forge and his hammer. Now they were powerful enough to heaten up adamant and craft items out of it. Your daggers are made of that same adamant ore, Karima."

Dareth walked to the counter and held on of the daggers in his hand. "Are you saying these are made of that adamant!?" The mage nodded. "Not even this kingdom would match in it's worth." Karima was amazed. She never guessed she carried such valuable items with her. "If I sold only one, I could be a queen." The mage smiled. "Surely you would not give away such a precious thing would you.?" Karima blushed and felt stupid for saying that out loud. "Of course not, I got driven away I guess."

The mage gestured Dareth to give him the other dagger. Dareth handed it over carefully. "Now, the smith said I would add something 'interesting'. You seem to be worthy, otherwise he would have never given the daggers to you." The mage gestured them to follow him. Behind the counter was a door. They went through the doorway and walked down a stone stair going a long way down. The mage made a gesture with his hands and suddenly torches were lit all along the stairway. They reached a strange room.

Their seemed to be some sort of altar in the middle of it. And steel locked chests where standing around it. "Let's see, what we need is Fire and Ice." He opened a chest and retrieved a white gem from it. He opened another chest and retrieved a red one.

He layed one of the daggers on the altar. And he placed a gem on the blade. "These are the basics of enchanting. Even though most people don't know. Gems hold the powers of the elements, if you fuse a gem a with a weapon. The weapon will have the power of that element. Red is fire. White is Ice, Blue is water. yellow is the power of lightning, and so on." The mage made smooth gestures with his hands and spoke a strange language. The gem sunk down in the dagger. Dareth and Karima did not believe what they saw. He did the same with the other dagger.

"Now, before you even think of picking them up, let me warn you. Normal enchanted items like swords made of steel or bronze would be powerful enough to set flame on a building, or freeze a puddle of water. Your adamant fire dagger will turn anything it touches instantly into ashes. The ice dagger will freeze an entire lake if needed be. That's why I put a little safety on both daggers. To activate the elements and deactivate them simply hold them up and let them touch each other.

The mage gave the daggers to Karima. "Go ahead, try them out." Karima held them up and crossed the daggers letting them touch each other. Suddenly the daggers started to glow and they illuminated the entire room. The right dagger had a bright red glow, and the left dagger was shining brightly white. Dareth was awed by the very sight of it, and so was Karima herself. She let them touch again and they returned to their original dark colour. She sheathed them.

The mage looked at Dareth. "That sword, can I have a look at it?" Dareth unsheathed it and gave it to the mage. The mage was not able to hold it and told Dareth to lay it on the altar, he touched the magnificent blade with his hands. "How come you can carry this around?, let alone fight with it." The mage examined it a little more. His eyes were growing wide. "This can't be, this sword holds the very essence of life itself! I can't determine wether it's good natured or evil, but let me tell you this. Be careful who you strike with it. It might have some serious consequences for that person!"

Dareth took his cloak off and showed the armour to the mage. "This armour is the reason why I can wield my blade. It heightens my senses, and increases my strength and speed greatly." The mage touched the armour with his hand and pulled it back right away. "Such tremendous power! I won't even ask where you got these items, Dareth, but know this. If they turn out to be evil, it will be too late when you find out. You two should leave now, I dare not having those items in the same room as myself."

The mage let them out and closed the door behind them without a goodbye. It was dark outside, Hayaleth and Gesamé were shining brightly. "How rude.." Said Karima.

Dareth was thinking of the day he got the sword and the armour. "Evil? It just can't be." He scratched his head, and decided to forget about it. "Come on, let's find an inn, that weird guy's fairytales took away the sunlight."

After walking around for a while they found an inn. It was a tall building, it probably had three floors. A sign was hanging outside. "The Gilded Rose" Dareth opened the door and walked in with Karima following. They did not bother being amongst the company of people in the inn that evening, and immediately headed for their room. They fell asleep soon.

Thank you Desmond, if I finish this, I will be sure to have it hosted somewhere at the least.

(Except for the chapter titles, lines with a * in the beginning, and a * in the end, is demons talking. I did that before, but did not bother to explain it.)

Chapter 6A.

*Unexpected help.*

Dareth woke up, and felt someone was leaning against him. "Karima!?" He quietly got out of bed and got dressed. He sat down on the bed and awoke her. "Oi, wake up." Karima awoke and stretched, after she yawned a few times. "You got something to explain woman! I'm not the kind of guy who sleeps with mere children, yet I woke up with you laying next to me, well!?"

Karima blushed, she sat up and looked down. "I woke up from a nightmare, I kept seeing the faces of those men I killed... I got scared, and I thought I would feel safer with you laying close to me. I did not mean to..." Dareth relaxed, and smiled. "If that's the reason, I suppose it's all right, but do anything I wouldn't like when you do it again, all right?" Karima nodded, "It's just that I merely sought shelter. And Dareth?"

"Hm?"

Karima looked Dareth in the eyes and said: "I never had any family for as long as I can remember, but being with you makes me feel, it makes me feel like having a brother!" She got up and held him tightly. Dareth gently wrapped his arms around the girl. "A family, who would have thought I would ever have one again." He smiled and said: "Oi, I guess that makes you my little sister then." Karima was looking up again. Dareth saw she was crying. Their eyes met for a brief moment, then Karima rested her head against Dareth's chest again. Dareth whispered: "Don't worry kid, you will never have to be alone again. It's a lifetime promise."

Dareth waited outside the room and waited for Karima to get dressed. Meanwhile Dareth was checking out his map, the next location did not seem that far from this town. After a long while the door opened and Karima left the room with a big smile on her face. They went to the mess hall and got breakfast. They sat down at a table and ate their meal. "I got business to attend to again. I will have to ask you to stay here. Like last time. I'll come back tomorrow when the sun sets."" Karima nodded. "I understand." Dareth did not even bother why she went so easy on it this time, and finished his meal. "I'll be leaving soon, you can check out the town if you like, just stay out of trouble." Karima smiled. "I no longer have to steal, I have a big brother to take care of me now." Dareth packed some things together and left the inn soon thereafter.

The area appeared to be forest surrounded by three covered tall mountains. The location seemed to lead to one of the mountains peaks. He checked out the mountains, but could not see anything obvious that might lead him to his goal. "Maybe it's on the other side of the mountains, or deep inside one of them." He looked at the map again and decided it had to be one of the three mountains straight to the south.

After walking for about half a day he reached the foothills of the now nearby mountains. The sun was still shining and there was no sign of a cloud or whatsoever. It was clear blue and from the looks of it, it would remain like this the rest of the day. Autumn was advancing and the trees nearly lost all their leafs. It would be a small matter of time before Winter would show up. Dareth sat down for a while to drink from his water pouch. He got up soon again and resumed his trip to the mountains. Although Dareth did not notice it, he was being followed. A black silhouette was sneaking from place to place, not to be noticed.

Dareth thought it over again and picked the mountain in the middle from the three he had chosen before." Yep, that's probably the one."

The mountains were near now, soon he would reach the steep stone walls. Before he started climbing them, he took a short rest to prepare for the long way up .

It was getting cold, Dareth was halfway the mountain. He looked beneath him, if he would fall now, he'd be dead for sure, even with this armour. He continued to scale the rock wall. "Just a little more, I think I saw a path from beneath, once I reach that, it should not be a problem." After about eighty feet he reached a ledge, it was a path just as he thought. He followed the path up to the mountain and almost reached the top. At last he was standing on the top, but nothing was there but snow and ice. He walked around a bit and checked the area out. Suddenly the ground underneath him started to move. Something grabbed his ankles and pulled him down. He tried to stab it but after in a short while he was in so deep he was no longer even able to swing it. Only the sword was visible now, and it slowly sunk in the snow along with Dareth.

The stalker arrived at the scene and saw the tip of the sword going down. It was Karima! "Dareth!, Dareeeeth!" She ran to place where she last saw the sword, dropped on her knees and started to dig with her hands. "Dareth, no.." A tear landed in the snow. Her hands were starting to hurt from the digging and the cold snow. Suddenly she thought of something.

"Now, before you even think of picking them up, let me warn you. Normal enchanted items like swords made of steel or bronze would be powerful enough to set flame on a building, or freeze a puddle of water. Your adamant fire dagger will turn anything it touches instantly into ashes." She remembered the words said to her by the mage. If it can turn a house into ashes instantly, it will surely melt this ****ing snow!" She unsheathed the daggers, once again they were shining with the bright white and the deep red glow. She held the fiery dagger up and then thrusted it into the ground. It worked! At the place where Dareth stood she sunk down as the snow melted and vaporized instantly. She wiped the water from her face, soon her outfit became all damp. But she didn't care one bit.

"Oof!." Karima fell down inside a cave. She did not have time to think she was in pain or not. She quickly stood up and crossed the daggers. The bright glow disappeared. This way she would not be so easily noticed. She saw signs of a struggle and tracks of something being dragged. She followed the trail without making a sound. Soon she found out she was going down, there was less ice and air was getting warmer. After a while all the ice was gone and only dark rocks were surrounding her now. She could no longer see the trail. But there were no sideways or whatsoever, she took it granted she was walking the right way.

"You bastards!, let go of me, and I'll teach you not to use cheap ambush tricks on me!" Karima clearly heard Dareth's voice now. She was getting near. She focussed anything that could move. She was tingling all over. Over a short distance she saw some sort of doorway, she carefully approached it, and tried to get a view of what happened behind that doorway. It was a very large room, big enough to hold an army in. Dareth! She saw Dareth chained against the wall. His sword was lying next to him. The creatures inside tried to wield it, but none of them was even strong enough to even lift it alone. It got carried in by four of them who were all worn out. Karima took a closer look and could clearly see one of the creatures now. It's skin was red, it had ramlike horns on each side of their head. The eyes were yellow with no pupils and it's mouths had large tusks sticking out. The creature was largely built and muscular with veins sticking out on every muscle. The red skin was shining from the sweat and the surrounding torches. *What shall we do with this human?* Another one said. *Let's roast it in the lava pits and see if it screams* The others were laughing. Their voices were horrible to listen to.

From the looks of it there were about eight of them. Karima examined each one of them. Four of them seemed to be rather tired and worn out. The other four were looking rather fit and ready to fight. Karima was thinking. "There's no choice, Dareth is helpless right now, it's up to me! If I don't do it, I will lose him. I will lose my only family!" She crossed the daggers and they bursted with light. She leaped at the tired looking ones first. They did not have the time to react properly and were frozen in place by the ice dagger with a single strike each. "Karima!? What are you doing here, get out of here now or you'll get hurt!" Karima had no time to say anything back. The others now were alarmed by the small intruder and called for help, before they charged into battle. She dodged and blocked everything she could, she stabbed one through the eye with the fire dagger, It turned into ashes, and left a pile of ash and dust on the ground. "Three left, good!" She leaped to the remaining three.

"Karima, behind you!" Dareth screamed. It was too late. She got hit from behind in the neck with and was unconscious. She dropped the daggers, without her wielding them their light faded. It seemed the leader had appeared and attacked Karima on sight. *Worthless scum, getting overpowered by a ****ing human! Be gone!" The obvious lessers made their way out. The leader turned his attention at Karima laying in front of him. *Well, well, look at this, a female, a young one even. Human! Would this one be a relative of yours?* It grinned and looked at Dareth. "Leave her alone you bastard!" It started laughing. *She took some fine minions of mine, let me at least repay the favour after I have my little fun.* The red skinned demon turned her over with his foot, and undressed her with his claw. Her firm breasts were uncovered. It squeezed in one of them, and let out an evil chuckle. "Don't touch her you ****ing bastard! Lay one more finger on her and I will kill you, mother****er!" The demon turned to Dareth and laughed him right in the face. *You won't be doing anything human, those chains can not be broken by anything.* It returned to Karima and started to undress her further. It touched her all over and chuckled again, then the beast layed a finger between her breasts and made a shallow cut going more and more down. He almost reached "it".

Chapter 6B

*Revenge is near.*

"Stop it you ****ing bastard!" Dareth was enraged, every image of the past was brought up, it was happened again. "I will not let you get away with this!" He screamed. Suddenly Dareth was engulfed with fire. The armour changed shape. The chains snapped like they were woollen threads. Dareth was unleashed! The armour was still changing. The demon turned around and was stunned. *What the **** is going on! This is not the power of a mere human, what is he, or what is that armour!?* Finally it stopped changing shape. Smoke was clearing up and a dark silhouette slowly took shape in the smoke. The shape resembled that of a dragon, horns where sticking out from a newly formed helm, shoulders ,knees and elbows. It's colour was gold. Some parts were covered with scales. Dareth was slightly bending through his knees as he was breathing heavily. He kneeled to pick up his blade. It engulfed with fire the moment he touched it. *Guards!* The three from before and appeared and soon their comrades came along. soon the entire room was filled with spawns from hell, and Dareth was surrounded.

Dareth walked over Karima, lifted her up and held her with one hand. Due to the transformation Dareth was strong enough to wield the sword with one hand now. *Charge at him, every single one of you! NOW!* The demons obeyed and they charged in with all kinds of weaponry. Swords, spears, tridans, morningstars, double axes and so on. Dareth dodged everything for the sake of Karima. He swung his sword around. At least fifteen dropped down to the floor. With inhuman speed he rushed through the others still holding Karima near him, leaving nothing but shreds of meat and blood. He headed for their leader and without any hesitation he cut the creature in half at it's waste. It still lived. *You ****ing mortal, who are you!" Dareth's voice came from within the helmet. "I told you I would kill you, and now it's time to do so!" Dareth thrusted the sword through the head of the demon slowly, letting it scream in agony before it died.

Dareth laid down Karima and wrapped her in his cloak ,the armour was returning to it's original shape. He dropped on his knees,. He was completely worn out. He dragged himself to Karima and held her. "I'm so sorry.. I got you dragged into all of this." A tear dropped down on Karima's cheek. She awoke. "D Dareth, what happened?" She saw the look on his face, and then felt pain, she reached for stomach with her hand. "I'm undressed?" She looked at her hand. "Blood..!" Although she was unconscious back then, she did not need to think of what might have happened, and she held Dareth as tight as she could. "I'm so sorry!" Said Dareth. Karima whispered. "It's okay, in the end you saved me and we made it, we're alive, that's all that matters for now.."

She let go of Dareth, stood up and dragged him to the nearest wall and let him lean against it. Slowly she walked over to her armour, dropped the cloak on the ground, uncovering her perfect body, now stained by a bleeding cut. Karima wiped the blood of with the cloak. She reached for leather armour and put it back on. Some straps and belts were ruined by the claw of the demon, but she did what she could to cover herself up. The daggers were laying pretty near, she sheathed them and picked up the cloak.

Karima was sitting down next to Dareth with the cloak around her. Her head rested on Dareth's shoulder. The torches illuminated the room. It was filled with dismembered corpses. Creatures with the most terrifying shapes were lying dead. The room was filled with the stench of dead. Karima was almost throwing up. She covered her nose and mouth with the cloak. After an hour or so, Dareth was able to stand up again. He stretched his limbs and looked over his shoulder at Karima. "Come, we should leave now." Karima nodded, she followed Dareth to the stairway. It was dark. Karima unsheathed the daggers and crossed them. They created more then enough light to lead them through the darkness. Soon they reached the icy parts again, and light was coming through. Karima crossed her daggers and put them back in their sheaths.

They reached a gate made of stone, Dareth pushed against it but it would not even budge. He pushed Karima behind him. Without any hesitation he drew his sword and smashed the gate into pieces with a single strike. Debris was flying everywhere. "Agh!" Dareth was having pain all over. The armour had completely drained him. He recomposed himself and looked outside. The sun was just coming up. The gate was just on the other side of the mountain. They walked out and made their way back to the path, They reached the point where Dareth scaled the mountainwall. Dareth was looking down, and was about to climb down. Karima laid a hand on his shoulder. "Just follow the road, if you would have looked a little further, when you were down below, you would have found this path going up." Dareth chuckled and ached all over. "Yep, definitely me all right..."

The sun had reached its highest point and they almost reached forest. Just a little further. After roughly half an hour they reached the forest, and rested for a while. Karima decided to continue after that short break. Dareth was clearly having trouble going on. It wasn't just for the armour draining his energy back then. He thought himself as unforgivable for what happened to his dearest friend. Karima noticed the look on Dareth's face. "Stop worrying about it. I'm fine, all it will leave is a scar. And I'll probably receive more in the near future, so it's no big deal. It was me who followed you, not the other way around. Really. You saved me, you where there when I need you, just like a real brother. So stop being like this!" Karima was hitting Dareth's chest with her fists softly. Tears were flowing from her eyes. Dareth held her again. "I'm all right now" He turned her face and looked her in the eyes. He smiled "Thank you." He wiped the tears from Karima's face and held her hand gently. "Come, let us return." Hand in hand they walked back.

The sun was setting, but the guards were still stationed at the gates. One of them recognized Dareth and Karima from previous. "It's okay, let them through." They did not lower their halberds and let the weary duo through. They reached a temple. "You should go see a doctor or a priest, that wound does not look like anything serious, but it was inflicted by a something not from this world. "Karima nodded. "You're right, I will." They walked up the broad stone stairway, and entered the holy sanctuary. "Oi priestess, can you check on her?" A blond woman looked up, she was wearing a white garment like the other priest inside. "What's wrong with her?" She asked. Karima showed her wound. The priestess gestured Karima to follow her. They went into a room, and soon came out. "Well?" Karima smiled. "I should be fine she said. she did say I should buy a salve at the local apothecary to prevent and infection and scar tissue, so it won't even leave a scar. Here, I got the prescription" Karima showed the note and tucked it into her pocket.

They went to the apothecary and got the salve for a little coin. They headed back to the inn. Dareth ordered some two meals and told Karima to go to their room and apply the salve right away. She did as Dareth said and returned soon. They sat down at a table. The waitress soon came to them with two plates. The meal was a large chunk of roasted pork with some raw vegetables. They ate it all as they barely ate anything today. While eating Karima asked Dareth a question. "All I want to know is, how did you defeat all of them?, especially the large one, he looked tough even as a corpse." Dareth nodded. "It seems my armour can do more then just protect me and boost my abilities. Somehow it transformed and became tremendously powerful. Although it was a great power to have, it seemed to completely drain me."

"Wrmlbgticed." Said Karima.

"Don't talk when you're chewing.."

Karima swallowed it and said. "I said I noticed." And she started eating again.

Dareth chuckled. "You're really one of a kind, kid." Karima smiled and took another bite from her roasted pork. Dareth ordered another portion. Karima was stuffed, and couldn't eat anything more. Dareth finished his meal. They headed for their room. Dareth opened the door, he let Karima walk through and closed the door behind him. "Dareth?"

"Hm?"

"Can I lay next to you again, just for this night?" Dareth thought of what happened today and nodded. "Sure, but don't make a habit of it." He blew out the candle and layed down on his bed. Karima joined him soon thereafter. She held Dareth and fell asleep. Dareth tried to stay awake just to think some things over, but couldn't fight his sleepy eyes. He closed his eyes and went to sleep.

Next day, Dareth and Karima went to a tailor. He bought her a dress. "Here, put it on." Karima chuckled. "What!, you want me to wear that!?" Dareth nodded. "You can't walk the streets naked while that leather armour of yours is being repaired." Karima did not seem to like it. "You could've at least bought me something else, I can hardly move in these things." She went back to the inn, and Karima put the dress on in their room. She folded the leather armour, and walked back outside with the leather armour under her left arm.

Though Karima did not like it herself. She was looking gorgeous. A man from across the street whistled at her. "If you want your teeth in the back of your head, do that again.!" Karima raised her fist at him. The man made his escape. Dareth sighed. "Oh boy, look who's well mannered now." Karima chuckled. "It's your fault you know, I shouldn't be hanging around with an ill mannered mercenary." Dareth chuckled along with Karima and put his hands behind his head. "You're probably right kid."

"Still, I'm glad I met you though, even if you're an ill mannered mercenary."

"I agree, but how do you know I'm a mercenary? Karima shook her head. "Even though the way you act, points out the obvious, I saw what happened with that map of yours. From what I think of it, you're getting missions from someone or something. And that also makes you a mercenary." Dareth was stunned. "So you know that much.?" Karima had a satisfied grin on her face. "Yep, the one thing I don't know is who your employee is, but I do know that map of yours will probably have a new mark by now." Dareth almost jumped up. "You really should not stick your nose in someone else's business." Karima laughed out loud. With laughter and complaints they walked to the nearby leatherworker.

Dareth stepped in and saw a dark haired woman of medium age sitting in the shop working on some leather boots. "You the owner? The woman looked up. "Yes that would be me, can I help you with anything?" Karima walked in with her leather armour and showed it to the woman. "Some of belts and straps are broken, it also needs some touch ups as I have been wearing it for a while." The woman looked at Karima and then at the armour. She took it and brought it to the back of the shop. She returned "I will have it done by tomorrow. Come back around midday. By the way, would like me to dye it in black?" Karima nodded "Sure, but wouldn't that be very expensive.?"

"Do whatever you like with the armour, money won't be a problem." Said Dareth.

Karima smiled at Dareth. "Thanks."

That afternoon they went to a nearby lake. Dareth took the opportunity to freshen himself up, it had been a few days since he last washed. Karima was sitting on a small boulder near the lake. For Autumn it was a very warm day. The birds were singing, and some plants and flowers were still blooming. After a while Dareth returned, and saw her sitting. "It's like she stepped out of a painting, unbelievable.." He got dressed and walked to her. "Oi, how about you?" Karima looked up. "What about me?" Dareth closed his nose with his fingers. "You could use a good bath too you know." Karima carefully smelled her armpits. The odour was undeniable. She stood up, got undressed and ran to the lake as fast as she could, and jumped in the water. "Crazy kid." Dareth saw a nearby tree, he sat down underneath it and leaned against it. He closed his eyes and took a short nap. Suddenly he heard Karima screaming. He stood up and ran to her as quick as he could.

She stood in the water. "What's wrong!?" Karima covered her breast with her hands, she shivered all over. "A fish!"

"What kind of fish!?"

"I don't know but it touched me."

Dareth laughed as hard as he could. Karima got upset. She stuck out her tongue, and said.: "Next time I'll smack your head with it Dareth!" Dareth walked back to the tree and sat down again with his hands behind his head. He picked a straw from the grass and put it in his mouth. He looked at the sky, suddenly he remembered Karima's words.

"Yep, the one thing I don't know is who your employee is, but I do know that map of yours will probably have a new mark by now."

He sat up and retrieved the map from his bag. She was right! A new mark had appeared, but this one was different. He checked the letter as well. Underneath the old lines, new ones had appeared.

"Mortal, your task has almost come to an end, your last mission will be, infiltrating castle Razyr and take out the demon queen. Do this for us and your task is completed. Your revenge is coming nearer and nearer, mortal. Do not squander this opportunity."

"Razyr huh? Never heard of it. I'll ask the locals about if I can." He put the map and letter back in his bag, and leaned against the tree again. Karima returned and sat down next to him. "It sure is lovely out here." She looked at the lake with the sun's reflection in it. She leaned her head on Dareth's shoulder and closed her eyes. Dareth did not bother to take a nap again. He stayed awake and kept an eye on the area. Although there couldn't be any possible danger, he just made sure nothing could happen to her.

The sun was almost setting and Dareth woke Karima. "Come one sleepyhead, wake up." She stretched arms and yawned at the same time. "Where are we going?" Dareth listened closely. He heard something. Karima was looking below, it was her stomach. "To a place where we can fill that stomach of yours." He laughed. They went back to town and walked the streets. The roads were covered with shining cobblestones. Guards where lighting the lanterns, as the night would soon come. After they had their meal they sat around with the other guests and the locals for a while. They were having a good time. Dareth ordered two flagons of mead. It was Karima's first one, Dareth chuckled as she said it tasted good with a rather disgusted look on her face. When Dareth ordered seconds, Karima politely refused it. It was midnight, they left for their rooms, the mead made a big impact on Karima, she fell asleep the moment she closed her eyes. Dareth was just tired and fell asleep pretty soon as well.

Dareth and Karima were awake and eating their breakfast. They would head for the leatherworker soon. Karima did not feel so well. Dareth told her she probably had a hangover and chuckled over it. "Actually, it's something else" Karima leaned over the table and whispered in Dareth's ear. His face turned red. He stood up and put his hands on the table. "Woman! did you have to tell me that, your monthly problems are none of my concern!"

"You flapout! Not everyone needs to know about my condition you know!" The people in the inn were laughing at the duo as they behaved like children. "Who are you calling a flapout, you just told me you where on your period!" Karima got rather angry now "I was proving I was not having a hangover! And when I whisper something you're not supposed to spread it like some local news, you bonehead!" Dareth turned around. "I'll come back when you've come back to your senses woman! In the meanwhile, don't go anywhere!"

Karima nearly exploded. "I'll decide wherever I want go!"

"Fine!" Said Dareth.

Karima turned around "Fine!"

Dareth left the inn. Karima saw the people in the inn looking at her, and felt ridiculous. She went to her room and sat down on her bed, after a while she laid down and slept a bit.

Dareth returned at midday. He opened the door and saw her sleeping. He brought her armour back, and laid it next to her bed. He quickly wrote a note and laid it on the pile of armour. He left the room and headed for the mess hall.

Karima woke up and sat up for a while. She looked around her and saw something on the ground. "Hey my armour! And a note?"

She unfolded it "I'm sorry for acting that way before. Come to the mess hall with your armour on, I got a surprise for you." Karima already forgave him when she awoke, she smiled and held her armour up. It was looking perfect, all the belts and straps were repaired, the armour was made more comfortable to move around in, and was black as a starless night. She put it on and felt how comfortable it was compared to before. She holstered her daggers once more and their deep dark colour was matching perfectly with the armour. Excited she opened the door and locked it behind her. She ran to the mess hall. The moment she entered she saw Dareth sitting with a grin on his face. "You look good in that armour, kid!" Karima sat down in front of him. "I hope you forgive me for being such a bastard earlier." Karima nodded and smiled. "Of course, I guess the moment you walked out I already stopped being angry. But about that surprise, what is it?" Dareth grinned again. "Remember me buying you that dress at the clothier and you said, you could hardly move around with in it?" Karima nodded. "Well this time I bought you something that's a little more comfortable, it will suit well with the rest of your equipment. Stand up and close your eyes." Karima did as Dareth said, she stood up and closed her eyes. Dareth attached something to her armour.

"A black cloak! With a hood, oh Dareth you didn't have to!" She hugged Dareth and did not stop kissing him on the cheek. "Alright, alright, that's enough thanks for now." He chuckled. "I figured you could use this, even though that armour of yours is black now, that hair of yours makes you look like a lantern combined with the armour. And now you know what "business" I have, I'm quite sure you're not letting me go alone next time, even if I tell you not to." Karima's green eyes were sparkling. "You'll let me go with you!?" Dareth nodded, "Yeah. It's probably for the best, if you're near me I can protect you better, then when you're stalking me." Karima wasn't bothered by what Dareth last said, instead she jumped in the air and cheered. "We're headed West this time, to a castle called Razyr, it will take us a week to reach it by foot, so I asked around if there were people headed that way. It turned out a caravan of travelling street artist were headed that way. I approached them, and asked if we could join. They said they could only take us halfway there, so I refused." Karima looked confused. "Why did you refuse, I don't understand." Dareth grinned. "They charged me the same amount of coin, two horses would cost me, so instead I bought two, we'll be leaving right away after supper."
