ESF in Half-Life

It'd be pretty cool to play HL as an ESF character. As you're discussing, though, it's more involved than just dropping a HL map into your ESF maps folder. We'd get to fly around the HL maps and look at all the places Valve didn't want you to see. =)

You just copy Half-Life maps from your valve folder to your esf folder, and they'll appear along with all the others. The're not there in the Steam install of HL, so I'm guessing they're cached in a .gcf file. I copied the maps from my old WON install, but you might be able to extract the files with a special tool.

None of the maps will have any monsters or anything, though. =(

I think it would be awesome. Because if the guards couldnt fly they wouldnt see you above them... I think... and then you could just kamehameha them and they would be like BOOOM!! It would just be cool. Someone do it please.

I can play esf without Half Life and you can also copy the esf maps into your half-life folder (I did it with esf city), but I don't know how to do it with the steam version because I don't have it.
Btw cool idea!

Can't you just type in whatever chapter of Half-Life you want to play in as an arguement for the map proc and play like that?

Yes. After copying the HL maps to my ESF folder, that's exactly what I did. Except I didn't make it sound like functional programming. =P

I noticed somebody was running a server with the HL maps a few days ago. Maybe they saw this thread.

I didn't think you actually had to place the maps physically in the folder. The maps show up with "maps *" in any other modification and work fine to a degree.

While it would be fun, I don't see this as do-able without serious glitches to consider- advanced melee with a headcrab? Coding the basic melee for every enemy, and adjusting the distance sent according to the enemy type? (It'd look a little weird to kick a snark the same distance as nihalinth.) Coding PL would also be a bit of work.

Though assuming one got all that to work, spirt bombing nihalinth would be bad-ass.

well i really did make esf to have half-life singal but i cond not load the next map anywahy it whas greate o and don't let me forgot but the damang is small in compare whit the game it's lile u will have a hard time kiling a rcon or a alien (but the kamehameha will do woanders)
