Hi I read the thread below me and learned how to make a server but when I launch it it says its working but then my friends look for it on the internet tab and they cant find it. is there something Im not doing right here?

If you're behind a router, you'll need to forward your ports.
If you know your router model, look for it on this page - http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
Once you find it, clicking on the link for you router model will bring you to a page with a list of programs, applications and games. Look for "Half-Life" and click on it. This will bring you to a page that has instructions on how to forward your ports for Half-Life.
