when try to play esf it just goes to half life..... why?

Use Steam.
Run Half-Life 1 once before you install ESF.

when i try registering it with steam it says that the cd key is invalid and will not proceed too wtf is wit that?

Buy the game. That's what that means.

If you did indeed buy the game and your CD-Key was in use, you should have brought the game back to the store where you purhcased it and gotten a refund, or a different copy.

Since it's probably too late for that, what you should do is ask around on the Steam forums about how to get your CD-Key reset.

Should all of that fail, buy another copy.

You don't need a CD-Key when buying directly through Steam. All your games are tied to your account.
