Are we allowed to edit the ESF code with only personal use? I wanted to do some type of stuff inside the client.dll and stuff like that. I won't be releasing it since it's only experimenting.

Of course you are, that's why they released it.

I'm not sure what the ESF "minimods" did, but I'm pretty sure they mostly edited the game via metamod and plugins.

If you're not planning on releasing it, how would anyone ever know?

Yes you can edit the client.dll as much as you like. But you wont be able to play online. Unless you make a backup copy of the dll first ;)

Like trying to improve the shading of the game, so I've picked esf because I thought it would be best doing that and alot more stuff. =o

Yeah, they're compiled source code. The Alpha 2.0 source code was released for download by harSens (I think, it was a long time ago), so you can edit it and build your own modified .dlls.

That's the ESF code he's talking about, unless I'm mistaken, and the beta source code has since been released. o_O

The client-side code is compiled into client.dll, and the server-side code is compiled into hl.dll/whatever liblist.gam specifies.
