On another note, I believe modding would also keep the community going as it has been proved with games like GTA, Elder Scrolls, etc. I'm not particularly interested in this, but I'm just laying a question out there. Most changes mentioned by @Grega are cosmetic, so does that meant that someone could change the character/map textures if they wanted to?

Well model swapping is easily done as well as map textures too with AMXX. I bring up AMXX a lot because it was pretty much all I knew for modding games.

Map tectures can be changed by editing the texture files. Since we are using external files (obviously since we are using models), we have access to the textures at any given time without any need to actually edit the model itself. Same goes for the community. Edit the .dds files and you edit the texture of the map without any need for AMXX or anything like that.

Model swapping goes the same as in the current version.
